    Pro-D Details

Pro-D is Discrafts affordable basic plastic blend. This isn't the most durable plastic, but it provides good grip and is very affordable. For old school disc golfers that like to "break in" thier discs for varying flight paths, Pro-D is an excellent choice. It is also one of the most popular blends for putters and is often referred to as "putter line" plastic.

I came from an ultimate background. The rattler is a fantastic disc. It flies just like an Ultrastar.

It does not take torque well at all, but it is perfect for approaches. Since it's similar to an Ultrastar, you can do a simple flick and it will slowly glide towards your target. It's very easy to put a ton of spin on. The massive amount of spin that you can put on this disc makes it virtually windproof, and I can always count on the rattler to go where I want it to go.

When it hits the ground or the basket, it absorbs the impact and doesn't bounce or roll far. I cannot overstate how great this disc is for approaches under 100ft.

Edit: After using the rattler for a while and picking up two different weights there are noticeable differences worth mentioning. I have two rattlers, weights 155g, 175g. The 175g absorbs impacts better and is less likely to roll away, it is also more wind resistant. Although, just like an UltraStar, if you put enough spin on it, both weights will hold their lines in the wind. For the most ultimate-like experience, go with a 155g. You will get your best "touch" shots with a lighter weight. I mostly use the 155g rattler.

The Rattler, from Discraft, is an interesting putter. It feels like a smaller version of ultimate disc, as its very deep. It was not super comfortable in my hand. It also throws similar to an ultimate disc. It is very touchy and doesn't require much power, but rather relies on its glide. Upshots was what I found it best suited for, but even then it was so sensative that I really didn't have much success with it. I'm sure its a great disc for some, just not something that clicks with me. The stamp is awesome though.

The Rattler is like a scaled down ultimate disc in dimensions. If that sounds fun, read on. I could never find my mojo with putting. It's not like I had it and lost it. It's that I never had it to begin with. Sure, I had my streaks where I thought I knew what I was doing and then it would all go to poop and while practicing, I would start to favor a slightly different putter, but it was always the same old story. I got somewhat consistent with an Aviar, then favored a Roach, then a Challenger. And I still like challengers for approaches. But the bulk of my (straddle) putting, I would go in waves of consistency because the release just never felt "right". THIS CHANGED WITH THE RATTLER. It feels different because it is different. It's way taller than my other discs with the thinnest rim of any of my discs... like an ultimate disc. But something about those dimensions makes it fit beautifully into my hand. I can straddle putt this with disc with a much cleaner release (no wobble) and it flies straight and true into the chains over and over and over. Mind you, this is not at great distance, but it's at a distance where I was 50/50 with a stack of roaches or a stack of challengers, I am now about 90/10 on my consistency with a rattler. I think there's only 8 left in stock at the time of this writing and so my review is probably useless (I bought up all but one of the 170-175g ones) This one disc mold has improved my game more than any other disc in my bag. I don't approach with it because I can't get a power grip on it, but it is definitely my go-to putter. It can be manipulated to almost hover and float like a freestyle disc which is great for inducing a soft landing by the basket, especially on downhill putts or putts where there's a hazard right behind the basket. It's a crazy useful disc, I'm just sad that it took me this long to find it.

This is one of the straightest-flying putters I've used.  Its flight characteristics are very similar to an Ultimate disc, so if you're coming from that sport like I did this is an excellent choice.  Its rim is easy to hold and release, and it holds a decent amount of arm power before it turns.  As a result, this is an excellent approach disc for pinpoint-accuracy approach shots from anywhere up to 100 feet out.  Its straight path is also extremely predictable, so it is a decent putting putter as well.  It only comes in Pro-D plastic, so durability is an issue.  Other than that, I love this putter, and highly recommend it.

The Rattler is interesting....its a super deep putter with a paper thin rim. It's like a smaller ultimate disc in that regard.

Throwing wise, its pretty straight. It's not gonna go very far, but it will go where you want it to. For a putter? Nah. It's way too deep for my liking. Maybe if I monster hands and spider fingers, but I don't.

I would give this to someone who is just transitioning to DG from Ultimate, because it would probably feel similar in the hand. Other than that- plenty of better putters on the market.

    not quite a lid...

My father has been throwing Rattlers for years, so I ordered him up one for an impending visit. Feeling frisky today I went and chucked it around. I initially thought the Rattler was a lid disc, but it does in fact have a beveled edge.

The flight is neutral, so decent for putts and floaty upshots, but the biggest drawback are the plastic and the actual feel. This sucker is deep dish city and for a non-lid, that makes it weird to hold. Just not comfortable at all.

While Pro-D is usually pretty durable for baseline plastic, on the Rattler it juat beats up way too easily. No bueno.

Its not a terrible disc, but I would never use it.

The Rattler was a pretty disappointing disc for me. Unless you like really deep rims, or have gigantic hands, I wouldn't recommend the rattler as a putter for putting with.

I was really hoping that the rattler would have a similar flight to the Sonic, but was disappointed to find out that even with the deep rim, the rattler did not have any more glide than a regular putter. Unless you like the feel of a disc like this, I also would not recommend the Rattler as an upshot or driving putter either.

I just don't like the feel of this disc. Way too thick a rim for what I'm used to. It would probably be fine if you hadn't used other putters, but once you're used to a certain putting feel, the Rattler is way too different for my liking.

The rim is so deep, your fingers get lost. Seriously. If you don't like it, you can use it as a bowl for your morning cereal.
