    Pro-D Details

Pro-D is Discrafts affordable basic plastic blend. This isn't the most durable plastic, but it provides good grip and is very affordable. For old school disc golfers that like to "break in" thier discs for varying flight paths, Pro-D is an excellent choice. It is also one of the most popular blends for putters and is often referred to as "putter line" plastic.

I bought this disc looking for the understable use but have found it to be much more overstable. For mid range I had been using the Innova Shark. To me, the Hawk is just as overstable as the Shark but less true to its rating. It may be due to the fact that I bought Pro-D or it may be that I am much more novice than I am experienced. I have enjoyed playing for years but very inconsistently. I have thrown the Hawk several times now and am back to resorting to the Shark because I just have a better feel with it.

I first threw the Hawk at a 2019 Discraft Ace Race that I helped host. I know, I'm late to the party as this disc was released in the 90's, but you know what... I finally threw it. At first feel in the hand, I wasn't very excited about it. I prefer mid-ranges to be flatter and this one is rather domey. I am not a big Mid Range thrower (only bag 3) but with the flight numbers of this one, and knowing that Discrafts Mid Range game is second to none, I was pretty excited to try it out. While this isn't a disc that is going to make it into my bag, I was pleasantly surprised by the flight of it. Brand new it didn't turn over as much as I thought it was going to. It turned a little bit and then straightened up, and on some of the softer throws actually got some fade. Of course you don't really open up on a disc during an Ace Race as they are all shorter holes so I never saw its full flight potential, but for an Ace Race style event, this disc is perfect in my opinion. You can throw this thing fairly softly and get some fairly straight lines out of it. Very beginner friendly. Not going to make the bag, but definitely not a bad disc.

The Hawk is an outstanding neutral flying discs that is great for new players to learn with. You can really throw any type of shot with this disc depending on how you release it. It is great for technical wooded shots that don't have much room to work. One thing that holds this disc back is the lack of plastic options, as it is only available in Pro-D. If this disc could hold its initial flight qualities longer I think you might see more people bag it.

An old school driver, now considered a mid-range disc.  The Hawk is very straight, slow flyer.  While the pro D plastic isn't the most durable, it has a great feel, perfect for mid range discs.

The Hawk is great on short, technical shots where you have to go perfectly straight or anhyzer.

I used one many years ago, and just picked up another one.  It definitely has a place in my bag.

The Hawk is a good disc to start someone off with, but with so many options on the market now, it's close to obsolete.

The wing is like a rounded blunt driver with a bead, and the Pro-D plastic is really unsuitable for a disc that could be taking some impact. I hit a fence with mine and it took off an inch long gouge.

The flight starts off fairly nice, with some rolling turn and a gentle, yet noticeable fade.

Honestly it's a lot like the Cyclone, a beast in it's heyday, but now it's just a decent relic.

A Disc From A Bygone Era...

The Hawk was once a very popular disc, back when it was classified as a driver. This driver heritage can be seen when you hold it...it just feels and looks like a driver. Sadly, the Pro-D plastic beats up far too easily, and this disc just has too much turn, to really be all that useful. This is the kind of disc you buy and keep in your trunk to give to someone when you introduce them to the game. Starting someone off with a putter won't be fun for them...but if you give them the Hawk and a nice neutral putter, they will have a lot of fun. Oddly, the Hawk also has a fair amount of fade on it for such a flippy disc.

If you don't make a good disc in better plastics, you can just sell it in beginner disc sets. Good disc, but unless you just like basic plastics you are better off with a Comet or a Meteor.

It has a good flight, holds a line but does not have the durability. There are other discs that have all that this one can offer and more… A friend sank mine in a lake, it was easily replaced by a meteor and couldn't be happier.

This was my first midrange disk and one the most consistent discs in my bag. If I need accuracy this is one of my go to disks. I sank a 60+ foot shot with a nice gentle hyzer using this disc.
