    Pro-D Details

Pro-D is Discrafts affordable basic plastic blend. This isn't the most durable plastic, but it provides good grip and is very affordable. For old school disc golfers that like to "break in" thier discs for varying flight paths, Pro-D is an excellent choice. It is also one of the most popular blends for putters and is often referred to as "putter line" plastic.

171g - flat top and pink.   this disc is dead straight, have some aces with it. easy to throw.  the fade is more like 2 for the heavier ones.  and about fade 1 at 165g.  this is one of the old  school discs that makes me wonder why I bother with many new drivers. if this disc is flat top with premium plastic, I would retire many of my new drivers.  it is sad the original big 2 disc makers ignore some ot the best discs they ever made.

This is a one of the first disc golf discs I started with as a kid when I would go out with my Dad. Some 25-30 years ago. I have also thrown it later on. I think back when it came out in the 90's it was cutting edge. Since then it has been surpassed I think in many peoples minds by better Discraft discs and others. It by no means is a bad disc.

I believe it is limited in that it's only in base plastic which isn't very durable but has nice grip. This would still be a great disc for someone newer who just plays once in a while and wants a low cost fairway driver.

The Cyclone is an old-school molded fairway driver that is stable with good fade at the end.  It's a wide diameter disc with thin rim and plenty of glide, great for straight shots with a strong fade or s-curve lines with more forward fade.  The Cyclone doesn't hold a lot of torque (unless you're lucky enough to find one of the rare Z Cyclones) but it will still get the job done by dropping the angle and throwing a flip.

Assuming you like the older style of disc, the Cyclone is a very accurate fairway driver that can be used for a variety of shots.  The wide diameter and high glide allow for long anhyzer lines as well as more gentle hyzer lines.  When powered up and put at a low angle, the Cyclone can be thrown low and straight and even display a forward fade which is one of the main draws of this disc.  Sidearm shots are possible with the Cyclone, but because of the wide diameter and lower torque resistance I've found that I throw it on touch sidearms rather than power sidearms.

The main complaint about the Cyclone (besides Discraft only molding Pro-D now) is that it can be susceptible to the wind, which is in part due to the wide diameter and less pointed rim.  The Z Cyclone was better in the wind, but the Pro-D can be pushed around more and can display more vertical movement in the wind than I like on fairway drives.  I carry a Z Cyclone so I can use in most conditions, but if you're looking at a Pro-D Cyclone you'll probably want to get as high a weight as possible.

Took me a bit to learn the strong suits of this disc but it does do what it's designed for pretty well. Purchased while at an amateur playing level it grew on me as I got better. When I need a long tomahawk pancake, maybe even off the tee, the cyclone is the tool for the job. Surprisingly accurate and controllable at full chuck with a little practice. Probably the most exciting shot when executed well. This disc will turn over and slide into cage seeking pancakes even after being thrown straight up over the most menacing tee blocking wall of trees. Overstable in lighter weights? Best believe it!

I cannot for the life of me understand why Discraft doesn't run the Cyclone in more plastics. This really is one of the great discs of all time. This disc and the Gazelle are two discs that I really learned the game of disc golf on (and oddly neither are offered consistently in premium plastics). The flight is as described in the flight chart, nice, perfect amount of turn followed by some good fade. This disc holds up to decent wind pretty well, and you can really throw it on just about any line. Please Discraft, start running the Cyclone in more plastics and revibe this great mold.

I would never throw one of these if I had to but worked at a summer camp and this is what they gave the kids. Good beginner disc

This was the best driver for years and years, and it still holds up today. The flight is predicable and as it wears in becomes a great turnover disc as well.

Compared to the rest of the disc on the market these days it's not as comfortable and feels super old school. Not a knock on it but if your used to modern drivers, it feels different.

Love the disc for when I need to work lines that i need a little more distance than my usual mids. I have it in Pro-D plastic and it breaks in well. I love the somewhat unique rim.

I should ammend this by saying the Elite Z Cyclone I had was stamped as having 1.5 stability, I believe.

I threw this disc as a beginner in the Pro-D plastic and loved how easy it was to throw. Very straight and very dependable. I eventually taco'd the disc and retired it. I didn't pick one up again until my local pro shop showed me they had a very, very gently used OOP Elite Z Cyclone, which I instantly purchased and started to throw. After field testing it and playing a few rounds with it, I was really dissapointed. Gone was the disc I remembered. Instead I had a surprisingly beefy fairway driver that just didn't behave the way I was trying to make it. This disc could do wonders for some people, but it did not find a place in my bag. Perhaps the Elite X or ESP are better plastic blends for this disc.
