Review for an x line cyclone:

The cyclone is a great "old school" driver. However, it still flies really well. Mine is in x line plastic and beat up like crazy. I can hyser flip it really well. It makes it a good woods disc. I could throw it on hyser, watch it pop up to flat, turn right, and fade back to the left. If I powered up on it, I could throw long, sweeping anhysers. They are harder to come by in a durable plastic but these things fly really, really well. It feels good in my hand. I do not know if this is intentional, but it feels like it has a bead. In x line plastic, it is nice and gummy.

Speed: Speed 7 is definitely correct. This disc is not super fast.

Glide: The glide is also spot on. This disc glides well, but not for days.

Turn: I do not think the -1 turn is correct. This disc was pretty flippy; a -2 turn at least.

Fade: Being a flippy disc, a fade of 3 is incorrect on my cyclone. I would rate this as a 2 fade.

90 percent of the time this is my go to disc for the throw after the distance driver.

With this being a slightly understable disc it is a great disc if you have an obstacle that you want to get around. The glide has given me troubles at time be you are able to adapt to it over time.

The Cyclone is a stable fairway driver. While I've thrown both D and X plastic Cyclones, this review is specifically for the X Cyclone.

In terms of physical characteristics, this is a kind of odd disc. The X plastic is relatively hard, but maybe the colder weather is just playing tricks on me, as I seem to remember otherwise. The disc has a domey top, far different from the flatter style typical of more recent overstable drivers. The rim is also interestingly configured: the nose is rounded to the extent of somewhat resembling a bead on the outside edge, and the bottom also features a triangular bead-like feature - in many ways, it feels like a driverized mid. All this said, there's nothing about this disc that makes it difficult to grip comfortably, though the extremely bead-averse may wish to feel it before purchasing one.

In term of flight characteristics, this disc initially disappointed me somewhat: on a near-full power throw, it tended to flip hard early into the ground and cut roll, though it showed promise on downhill shots where there was plenty of spare air underneath. When I let up a bit, though, this disc began to show its merit on level ground as well, tracing a smooth line that would turn out right (for RHBH) in the early to middle portion of the flight and then finish softly back to center, sailing comfortably to around the 300' mark without much exertion. The key word for this kind of throw is smooth, not hard, which lends itself well to the fairway wood kind of role, where a big runup and full power aren't necessarily desirable or plausible.

The X plastic has so far held up decently: better than baseline plastics, but noticeably more prone to small nicks than premium plastics, and also a bit more prone to mild tacos, though easy enough to return to its unwarped state with hot water.

I wanted to like the Cyclone, but I have other discs that do the same thing. Overall it is a great disc for beginners who need something overstable for shots in the wind.

I received my Discraft Cyclone Elite X (162g) in a mystery box of Discraft misprints.  I have read many a rave review for the Cyclone, but I just can’t get my disc to do any of the things I have read about.  Perhaps mine is too light, or perhaps the Cyclone is just not as stable as advertised.  Either way, I can’t find a place for the Cyclone in my bag.  My Discraft XS Elite X does everything my Cyclone can do and more from the backhand side, and every time I try to flick it from the forehand side, I get a variety of crashes.

Others may find the Cyclone a great disc, but the magic is missing for me :(

This is currently my go to control driver. I love this disc. It does exactly what I intend to do. It has a very straight flight path and a predictable fade ad the end. Very useful in almost any situation.

I used an elite X cyclone when I was first starting out. It was so easy to throw, and taught me how to throw the disc straight. Being the past world distance record holder, the cyclone has history behind it and is a fantastic shot-shaping disc. From the other Cyclones I have heard, the Elite X plastic is generally more understable than the premium plastics, but more stable than the Pro-D plastic

The cyclone holds a nice tight line, my go to forehand driver.  This is the only driver with a bead in my bag, but for some reason this disc just works for me.  An Elite Z mold would nice.

This is my go to mid range. Easy to throw with confidence. I keep it in my bag for straight shots with predictable fade.

A vastly under-rated disc, this one should still be a staple in a lot of player's bags. I hear it was the first of the modern breed of drivers, and despite the age, it's held its own. It's now a "fairway" or "control" driver, but still - this disc likes to work right and can stand up and hyzer flip at relatively low power, making it a great all-around driving disc for beginners. It'll punish poor form, like its cousin the Comet, making it a good training disc as well.
