The second distance driver in the Active Line boasts tremendous speed, glide, and low-speed fade for players of all skill levels. The Astronaut has been created to unleash maximum distance for players of all skill levels, especially people moving towards their first high-speed driver. Those with larger amounts of power to their throw may find this to be an excellent long-distance roller and will perform equally as well when thrown with controlled power in the air. Astronaut can be expected to have high speed flight out of the hand, moderate to significant high speed turn, and minimal fade. Anyone that enjoys a fast driver they can maneuver with impressive anhyzers through the air will enjoy the Astronaut very much.

The Astronaut is another one of those high speed understable drivers that is hard to throw properly. It has a very narrow window of effectiveness, and if you under or overthrow this disc even a little you get a crappy flight.

Very understable, fast, and glidey. In fact, I'd say the Astronaut has more glide than any other high speed driver I've ever thrown. It will bomb as far as anything on the market.... if you miraculously flex it out without flipping it entirely. The Astronaut has very little stability, and once it turns it usually doesn't even try to come back.

Good disc for soft throwers who literally want to get every foot of distance possible.

Horribly inconsistent and inaccurate. The Astronaut will bomb with the best of them, but you don't know which zip code it's headed to. Buy at your own risk. Fun to throw and massive distance potential, but you won't get the same flight out of this disc twice.

If you live at altitude and are looking for a flippy bomber look no further than the Astronaut. If you give this thing height and a wide open fairway it will go

This disc has a lot of dome which adds stability which isnt always good for its intended beginner use. The large dome made it uncomfortable in my hand. this disc will not be in my bag. I still love the Active Premium plastic, but this disc is not for me.

As someone who throws less than 300 feet this disc is a little fast for me, forcing me to throw it on an anhyzer angle to get a full flex flight. Because I'm not a strong thrower, I get a little less turn and a little more fade than the specs show. The Astronaut's 2.3mm rim feels fairly wide to me, it's the widest rim I have ever thrown but I'm getting used to it. The Premium Active line plastic feels amazing, very smooth all around but grippy with a bit of give. It's very transparent making it a little harder to find your disc, even in short grass. Even though the Astronaut is a little fast for me I am getting some awesome distance with it so I can only imagine what a stronger thrower would achieve with this disc, especially if they have the power to flip it up. I will keep working with this disc to improve my performance because I think it's a great disc worth the effort. This is not a disc for beginners, it's too fast, too heavy and requires good angle control. For my power this disc rates as 12 6 -2 2.

    Decent disc but....

Found one of these uninked on the course an hour from me. Tried it out the rest of the round about 6-7 times. The disc looks to be nearly new. Had quite a bit of flashing on the bottom which was pretty sharp. I would say the flight was more like 12/5/-2/2.

I think once I remove the flashing maybe it will hold the turn longer. Not a badf disc, just nohting I would be going out to buy.

This was a great disc to give me added power and more easily throw an S-curve for longer throws.  It's not the most comfortable disc in my hand and some lower speed discs work well with just a touch less distance but much more control.  As I continue to build arm speed, I could see this being a utility high speed driver you really need to anhyzer.

Got one of these bad bois in the mystery box and I am only mildly disappointed. It's flippy, flight numbers are accurate. However if you can throw over 400 ft this is going to be nearly uselessly flippy. With about 80 percent power it flips and keeps on flipping if not thrown high or in a big tailwind. I don't want to recommend it to new throwers either. Even though you may be able to break the 300 ft barrier for the first time with this thing, there are 8-10 speeds that will absolutely get you there with much more control at that arm speed.

I've got a slower arm, but I was surprised to give this thing a try. The rim may measure like a 12 speed, but I has able to get this thing to fly fairly effortlessly. Surprisingly for a 12 speed, I have to be careful not to overturn this thing. Give it enough air and a touch of hyzer and this thing will bomb.

That said, there are other discs I prefer for this type of a role.

This disc is such a good disc for lower arm speed players that can't get over that 350-400ft mark. It is a great max distance shot disc for the slower arm speed to get the desired flight that the pros get. I think beginners would even be able to throw this disc as well but would just be a straight to overstable disc for them. Faster arm speed players might be able to use this as a roller disc or an understandable driver from the stand still shots in the woods. The plastic and feel is amazing so you don't have to worry about that

This has to be one of the potentially farthest flying discs on the market, whether throwing a hyzer flip or turnover with it, or throwing a roller with it. The glide on this disc coupled with the turn keeps it in the air very long, but you can also get it to roll very far. Out of all of the understable max distance drivers out there, this is definitely one of the easiest to work. That being said, it does not fight the wind very well, but otherwise it is a massive flyer that is fun to manipulate and I bag it for that reason

Disc: Discmania Active Premium Astronaut, 170g

Feel: Discmania’s Active Premium plastic feels similar to Innova’s Champion plastic. I personally am not the biggest fan of such plastic, but it is certainly still high quality. I just don’t love the feel in my hand. This driver feels pretty average in the hand. Can’t really say there’s anything unusual about it when it comes to feel. Which is certainly not a bad thing, there just isn’t really anything unique to put for feel.

Flight: This disc is a nice understable distance driver. It has a similar flight to the Prodigy X5, but slightly slower. I don’t exactly have a huge arm yet, as I am still relatively new to the sport of disc golf. A decent drive for me is about 350-375. So an understable distance driver isn’t going to be as flippy or have as understable a flight as it would in the hands of a professional. So take what I say about the flight with a grain of salt. This disc tends to turn for the first 15% of its flight, and then go straight until the last 10%, when it fades back. All in all, when I throw it well, it flies roughly 360. I like this disc in tailwinds, but don’t love it for crosswinds. Of course I wouldn’t throw this disc into a headwind at all. This disc also really likes to roll. I can get 425 feet of distance with a roller pretty consistently, as long as I throw it right and I have space to work with.

Overall: This disc is great! I really like the flight, and the trust I have that it will fly exactly how I want it to, if I don’t mess up my throw. This disc is a bit underrated, it’ll be interesting to see if it starts gaining popularity in the near future!

I love this mold. It's a very underrated disc. I think it gets overlooked because it's from the active lineup. If I need to rip a one for distance and the wind is down, this is what I'm reaching for. I don't have a pro level arm. The under stability of the astronaut really helps me get the most out of this for distance. It's fantastic for sidearm throws as well.

This is the perfect second distance driver for beginners after a lighter-weight driver. It's turn is pretty huge, so it's not great for advanced throwers, but for beginners it has just the right amount to go far enough out before fading that it will greatly increase your distance. It has enough fade that you can get a solid S curve out of it if you have a wider fairway.

Hyzerflip machine at 5000ft. Really nice disc to practice hyzer release angles for flip up flat and flip up turnover shots. Threw it once in a field and instantly put it into the bag for the round. Used a few times in a heavily wooded course for shaped shots, so it smacked some trees and is still flying pretty similar to brand new. Speed 12, so requires the correct arm speed to fly, but I would imagine it is fairly forgiving for beginners due to how understable it is.

    Excellent disc.

The Discmania Astronaut is a fantastic distant bomber for average disc golfers. The Astronaut just goes far. This is a fast disc with just the right amount of understableness to get me a big S-Curve flight and 350+ feet of distance. For the bigger arms out there, the -4 turn rating is probably legit, but I wouldn't give the Astronaut more than a -3 turn rating. It definitely flips up for me but is still very controllable. The Astronaut is very similar to the Yikun Qi.

Activeline Premium plastics is one of my favorites. It is ultra bright and just feels good.

One of the main thing disc golfers always want is more distance. If you're a developing player or just an amateur player looking for more distance, the Astronaut is definitely one to consider. This disc just might go all the way to outer space.
