The AGL Discs Baobab is an extremely overstable putt and approach disc golf disc. The Baobab sports a unique flight. This disc does not like to fly and when it does, it likes to fade hard. It has quickly become a favorite among those who have thrown it. The Boabab features a top bead and flat top making it comfortable to throw both backhand and forehand further increasing its versatility.  This disc becomes a freight train of a forehand roller disc, hence earning the title the “Bao-Bowler”! Whether you need a long putt to fall quickly to avoid trouble, need a tight s-curve flight, or just need a disc to dump hard the Baobab will take your approach game Above Ground Level.

This thing definitely lives up to the flight numbers. It's essentially a beadless Stego. Personally I didn't like the hand feel as I prefer beads. This is a great overstable utility disc, though.

TL;DR: This disc is not for me, but it is a good disc for specific people. If you like the Stego, A1, Zone OS, or similar discs, this is a cool option from a smaller manufacturer that has a really good mission. Outside of that audience, though, this disc doesn't get a spot in the bag.

I use a Harp as my main overstable approach disc. Generally, that means I throw my approaches flat or on hyzer, and let my Harp glide and do the work for me. I got my hands on a Baobab for a few test throws, and I didn't like it for a few reasons:

    1. The Baobab is a puddle top with a relatively sharp edge on the top of the rim. It felt weird in the hand and it felt even weirder coming out of the hand.

    2. I found it uncomfortably deep, even as a Harp user.

    3. It just flew like a brick to me. And don't get me wrong, that's exactly this disc's purpose. This disc doesn't compete with the Zone, Harp, or A2/A3; it competes with the Stego, the A1, and the Zone OS.

I've played rounds with someone who uses the Baobab (and others who use various competitors to it). They're usually throwing the disc on a controller anhyzer that flattens out and lands relatively flat. To them, they're playing darts with it, and they do REALLY WELL with it. To me, it hyzers out after 100 feet and goes nowhere. And I'm sure if I handed them my Harp, it would turn and burn in their hands because of how relatively flippy the Harp is.

If you're looking for a change in the overstable approach department, I'd give the Baobab a shot. AGL is a cool manufacturer that's big into environmentalism (they're the only manufacturer I can think of incorporating hemp into their production), and sometimes you can find hidden gems in smaller companies. I'm going to stick with my Harp though.

Woodland plastic - It feels great. It overall has good grip and I have never had it slip out before. It is also fairly stiff, it has a little flex too it but due to the stability and the stiffness this thing can get a lot of skip. I throw mine a ton and as i've thrown it the flight plate has slowly waffled.

Baobab- It definitely started off very stable and very little glide. For reference I can forehand a destroyer out to 420+ and I get the baobab a max of 215 and that is on a full flex. Flat it is a struggle to get it to 200. As it has beaten it is not quite as overstable as it once was. It is still plenty stable but it on full power flies pretty straight before fading. Overall, for what it is meant to do it is great at it. On open/park style course I don't get much use out of it but on wooded course this thing is amazing. It will be a staple in my bag on any wooded course!

This is a niche disc with a unique shape that I find to be pretty situational. Best for scrambling in the woods, and very tight turns. Great potential for forehand rollers (haven't gotten those down, but even I have had success with this thing) Dependable flight that can fight torque like no low speed disc I've thrown. Wants to fade as soon as you let go, and will if you don't give it enough power. You can shape some crazy shots with this.

Few examples for comparison: I regularly throw a Pig & ESP Zone, and have thrown the Harp, Jarn, and Roc. If I put them on an anny angle and give them enough power, they're gonna turn more than they fade. You do the same thing with this disc, it's gonna turn for a few blinks before it flips back over and fades hard. If turning a disc over was boxing, this thing is Mike Tyson (it's not gonna lose until it's old and beat up). I dare you to flip this thing backhand (maybe don't try because you'll probably hurt your arm. Mike Tyson.)

It has a shape like the top of a soda can. It's shape is mostly comparable to a Polecat, since it's very flat, but the rim is thinner and there's a little bead on top.

I call this thing The Sewer Lid, and it stays in my bag for very specific shots. Not used every round, but tends to make a difference when it comes out.

The baobab is a disc unlike anything else you can find on the market. It looks like it would just be a fun disc to mess around with but once people get their hands on it, you will see the true magic that is the baobab. It is a pure utility disc for people and often is a great option for those positions when you feel like you have absolutely no look. The baobab is extremely overstable and will get very little distance even when throw by huge arm players. But that is the magic, you can rip on the baobab with almost full power and trust it not to fly past the basket. I use my baobab as an approach disc whenever I feel like I need to control the distance but need to put a lot of power behind it. It consistently finds the ground and sits where it hits. I think the baobab is an approach disc any player can use, but if you do not understand how to utilize this disc you will hate it. Beginners should only use these when they are taught what wonders can come from it. The hidden ability that true AGL fans will know is the absolute beast the baobab is on rollers. If you put it down vertical and get it to the ground almost directly out of your hand, it will roll for days. You can't roll it like a zone where you can give it air time, it fights out too fast to be given air. But if you get it rolling with velocity quick out of your hand you can roll it for a long ways very straight.

I first got this disc just because of the absurd flight numbers. Just to mess around with. Then, I ordered more! The fit in the hand is great. Better than I thought this jar lid looking thing would be! This disc is my go-to for get out of jail shots or don't go OB shots. The Woodland plastic beats up quickly but has fantastic grip. You'll want to grab a couple of these. And one in Alpine for max overstabiity and durability.

This is a surprisingly useful utility disc. Honestly, I only got it because I was intrigued by the flight numbers, and while they are accurate, I've found a lot of uses for this disc. Its very true to the 0 glide they advertise on their site, so if you keep the throw flat, it'll fall before it has a chance to start fading, or you can give it some height and it'll fade HARD. The Woodland plastic is somewhat stiff but still has almost as much grip as Exo Soft, between that and the 0 glide it will stay still when it lands. That is, unless you use the blunt edge of it to do a roller, which I would image works quite well, but I haven't run into a case where I needed a roller since I got this disc. I also like the top bead more than I thought I would. It allows me to get a good snap of the wrist to give it enough spin to not fade immediately, while still controlling the amount of forward momentum I give it.

TLDR: Basically, this is the Berg's incredibly overstable cousin, but with (at least in my opinion) a better feel in the hand and a grippier plastic.

Love the dependable finish of this overstable disc as well as its versatility. Great for flicks, rollers, and backhands. The rollers sit up and don’t want to end if the ground conditions are right. Can put it on an anhyzer and it’ll fight out simulating a little bit of a glide.

AGL has done something incredible with the Baobab! It’s the ultimate utility upshot disc, and high wind putter. Baobab is a close cousin of the Stego, so it’s super overstable and not to be used for long distance throws. This disc will always finish OS, so it’s great to use for navigating the woods or around tricky obstacles. It’s so OS, that winds cannot cause it to anny, so Baobabs can be used to putt in extreme winds also. Forehand or backhand, Baobab can shave stokes off your game. BAOBABY!
