I currently own 3 of these all Gold Line 169. Ive had quite some time with one, the other two are newer, but they fly exactly the same.
First off, in the hand these discs, for as fast as they are, do not have an incredibly wide rim, in fact they are smaller than most discs of this speed category. To me it feels about the same width as a Discraft Surge, which is my go to distance driver and has been for a few years. Not too sharp of a wing, and definitely not shallow like a Scythe or Enforcer. The curve or scallop of the underside of the rim definitely is minor and doesn't "cut" into your fingers like some OS do. Gold line always has great grip and feel.
This disc is undoubtedly fast, out of the hand on a flat release it rips a straight line down the fairway, and the glide definitely helps carry it. This kind of caliber of disc you'd expect it to start stalling out early and fading, which it certainly can if your max distance is >300 ft. But if you give it the power it deserves it will hold for a long line and healthy fade.
This thing will also take a powerful flex shot, and you can bomb it pretty darn far.
When thrown into a headwind, this thing just keeps going straighter and straighter. Have no fear in ripping into this into some serious wind.
The fade is definitely a 3, if you undershoot it, it will saw off early and dive in, but it certainly is a workable fade.
The skip isnt as big as you'd thing, at least in my shots that I've thrown it.
Pros:
- Lightning fast with a very confortable rim
- Excellent glide for its stability.
- Workable for straight, hyzer and flex shots
- Headwind defiant
Cons:
- Not a beginner friendly distance driver, but may be workable for an OS depandant driver for shorter distances.
- Not really a con, but it does have a deeper rim for its speed, compared to what we've been seeing a lot of lately from everyone.
- Doesnt come in weights under 167 (yet)
Overall this is a fantastic distance driver that is good on forehand, backhand, straight, flex, hyzer, wind shots. This is the kind of distance driver that you can keep multiple copies of and replace all your other distance drivers.
