The Mantis is a reliable fairway driver that was originally released as the 2013 Ace Race disc in Titanium plastic. This disc provides a straight flight path, comfortable feel, and excellent glide. The later runs have a lower profile and it is slightly more domey to make it easier to control with additional glide.

    Pro-D Details

Pro-D is Discrafts affordable basic plastic blend. This isn't the most durable plastic, but it provides good grip and is very affordable. For old school disc golfers that like to "break in" thier discs for varying flight paths, Pro-D is an excellent choice. It is also one of the most popular blends for putters and is often referred to as "putter line" plastic.

I'm buying a lot of different drivers right now to try to figure out what the max speed is that my arm can reliably throw. I knew i could easily throw a six so i ordered a disc that was a seven and a Mantis which is an 8 speed. My first throw was on a hole that i usually have trouble with my discs fading to the wrong side of a mando. the mantis put me right where i needed to be past the mando with a clear second shot, I immediately fell in love. I also got closer to the basket on a moderately wooded uphill hole than i ever had before, weaving through the trees on the actual line i had envisioned!

This disc can fly quite nice for a beginner as long as they have a decent strength in their release.  It is not extremely overstable, but for beginners it will fade a little to the left (for right hand throwers).  I use this a lot on my long approaches (150 to 200 ft).  I usually don't use it as a distance driver since I have better luck with other discs for that.
