The Charge is an overstable fairway driver that will make a predictable fade at the end of any throw released at moderate speed. When thrown with more power, it will fly in a beautiful S-curve pattern, gently fading back for great distance. The Charge comes with molding on the disc that has a preloaded Tracking Module so that the disc can be tracked and recovered using smart phone Bluetooth technology.

Solid disc. I think it's obvious that I bought this disc because of the tracking device in it. Overall that's been a pretty disappointing experience. The battery life is kind of short so you have to go in and turn it on and off if you want to use the disc, which I could see a strong possibility that you not be able to track it either because the battery wore out or you forgot to turn it on or off.

At one point I fancied the idea of having all my discs with tracking devices on them, but as the weeks go on that actually sounds like it'd be a hassle and for now I'm okay with having the one novelty disc.

This feature would be best on a driver. Which I would probably still buy when that comes out.

The Tobu Charge is an extremely unique disc because it has built-in electronics. Tobu is the first disc manufacturer to get discs with onboard electronics through PDGA approval. That explains the high price of the disc. It comes with a module pre-mounted into the bottom of the flight plate which interacts with your iPhone or Android to make the disc easy to locate. So, if you have a fear of losing a disc because you play in some thick underbrush, this is your answer.

However, with all electronics put aside, I opted to give the Charge a test as a disc on its own merits. If it doesn't fly well, then why would I want to protect it with the pricey onboard electronics, right? I threw the disc at different powers, all RHBH, and was very pleased with the Charge as a serviceable driver.  On shorter, lower-power throws, it faded pretty steadily after a straight burst, making it a very predictable disc for shorter driver-- similar to a TeeBird or Undertaker. When I tried to put some power behind it, treating it more like a speed 12+ distance driver, it didn't crash and burn or turn into a roller, which is definitely a plus. It pulled to the understable side, but then rebounded with a gentle fade finish. The result on those long drives was a nice S-curve that finished with respectable distance just over 300 feet and a net stability of zero (finished straight ahead). Thus the disc proved that it could play a dual role in my bag, both as an overstable fairway driver, or as a slightly understable to stable distance driver.

Charge = approved!  It's expensive, but if you want a disc that you won't lose but that can still fly right, it's a win-win.
