I have previously used Wraiths and Traces in this distance driver slot, but have now turned to the Maelstrom. I believe it has the same overstablility as a star wraith out of the box, but mine was also pretty flat and I know I felt some that were more domey when I was in the store. So far, it will not flip over for me when thrown, even when throwing into a head wind, but I expect it will beat in some to get to that point. It is very comfortable for forehands as well, and I like it better there than I did the Wraith or Trace.

I played an 18 hole league round with only the Maelstrom as my distance driver. I wanted to really get a good feel for it. Like with most new discs, it took me a few holes to figure it out, but once I did, I could count on it for accurate drives around 300 feet. It flew less overstable than I expected, given the flight numbers. I initially expected a more prominent fade than I got. The disc has nice turn, especially when thrown with a little anhyzer and holds the line nicely until a moderate end fade. I couldn't power this disc to my maximum distance, but since it is a speed 11, it probably isn't intended for max power.

I think a lot of intermediate players would like the Maelstrom for those 300 foot drives when they don't want the disc to turn or fade too dramatically either way. Nice addition to the Storm Discs line.
