The Prometheus is a unique new driver released by up and coming Salient Discs. This is an extra wide diameter, straight flying distance driver. The intention with the Prometheus is to provide a disc which has a similar flight path to a midrange, but the distance of a driver. At 22.6cm, the diameter of this driver is wider than anything else the PDGA has approved in years. This disc is almost a centimeter wider than the Discraft Buzzz. The rim of the Prometheus also pushes the limits on width. The only PDGA approved disc with a wider wing, than the 2.6cm Prometheus, is the Aerobie Epic. The only disc to rival the Prometheus in dimensions is the non-PDGA-approved Gateway Ninja. Salient describes the Prometheus as a distance driver that acts like a control driver, with the fade of a midrange, and is advertised to be friendly to disc golfers of all skill levels.

Took my 173 LE Helium Prometheus out to the field today totally unaware what I would get. This is a massive disc bigger than a Stingray, and the LEHE plastic is like blizzard with a softer hand feel. The stamp is a motherboard look which is pretty cool and reflects a lot of sunlight, the light blue is a good highly visible color as well. I could see it 400 ft away on flat ground where my darker blue Ape, Giant and XCal were not visible. After a couple throws I finally got for the feel for the disc, flicking the disc it was going 360-400 starting with a slight turn and a gentle fade at the end. My results were slightly more S like than the above flight chart but it may be because I was unconsciously giving it a slight anhyzer. It's got a speed 14 wing but it's probably only 11 or 12 In practice, unless the sheer size is giving it the illusion of moving more slowly. I would rate it fairly stable, the flight path I was getting was similar to what a Groove or Dominator claims but rarely delivers. Really good stable flight. One thing it did do was fly at a much high altitude than I'm used to. I usually never see my Apes and Giants get more than 10 or so feet off the ground and this thing kept floating up to 20 ft or more. This could be a product of me not being used to it's bulk and getting the nose up, but not going to complain about close to 400 in the middle of the fairway. I haven't thrown many backhands yet, my backhand is less powerful so we shall see how it does.

It is a unique disc but quickly becoming my goto workhorse. This disc can do anythi g and everything except hit max d... but its not supposed to. The large plate sie seems a bit akward at first but a few throw i. Started flexi g and fitting my hand great. I dohave i. A 173 and have heard the max weights are much more os than the lighter weight. As i am missing os in my bag i may pick one up and those 2 discs would be able to be thrown 90%of my average throws. There are that good and versitle so far. Get one u should be happily suprised

I received mine yesterday and finally was able to go throw it today. I gotta say I was very surprised. For comparisons I throw a 163g accent and 175g amp 300 - 325. I normally don't even mess with anything faster. I do have a Pro wraith I'll pull out from time to time. My Prometheus is a 180g and every throw was 30 - 50 feet farther than my normal drives. I throw RHBH. It had a very subtle turn and a soft fade, much like the inbounds flight chart for it. The plastic feels soft but i nailed a picnic table with it when i tried a side arm throw and the damage is barley noticeable. The inner rim has a slight groove that fits my power grip well. This is the only wide rimmed driver I can throw backhand. I must have a unique disc because I've never experienced the fade other reveiwers are talking about.

i got my first run prometheus today. its a 188 the plastic has a good grip and is obviously high quality. i hurried up to my local course after work to toss this thing. but this disc in this weight is way to over stable for me, more like a 3 than a 1 i just could not straighten it out. i got a few decent flex shots with it but not a lot of distance. i let my youngest son who is my discing partner throw it since he has a much bigger arm than i do. he got it to fly straight for about 350 with a huge fade at the end. while this disc is awesome in a number of ways i think im just going to put it up for now its just not for me.

There's no doubt about it, this is a unique disc. I typically don't like wide rimmed drivers, and at 2.6cm, I was sure I wouldn't like this one, but I actually did. First off, this disc is huge. When you look at the diameter of the Prometheus compared to any other driver, you'll laugh. This thing eats fairway drivers for lunch.

The plastic is Championesque, but a little softer. I'd say it's more like Blizzard plastic, even though some of these discs weigh 188g. How this thing got PDGA approved, I can't say. It's very Ninja like. Where I am impressed with the Prometheus is in its flight. I've never thrown a high speed driver that just beelined straight down the fairway like this does. It was the same thing for me both backhand and forehand. As soon as you release it, you can see just how fast it is. After my first throw, I thought Salient was going to give me a new distance record because it felt so fast. But then when I took out my UDisc app to measure, I didn't even hit 300 feet. Nevertheless, I was able to get good distance out of it.

Salient describes the Prometheus as a "the flight of a midrange with the distance of a driver." While this disc flys really straight, it definitely does not fly like a mid. It also has a pretty big end of flight fade to it. I'd give it a fade rating of at least 2. Also, this disc skips really far, probably due to the ultra wide rim and diameter. I really like the this disc, especially for long straight forehand drives, but am not sure if I want to bag it because it's so much different than anything else I throw. The difference between this discs ultra thick rim and the fairway drivers I typically throw are just too extreme. One thing for sure is that this is a fun disc to throw. I'm going to predict that there will be a lot of people who just love it, and a lot who absolutely hate it.
