My friend had bought a pair of Friction Gloves and gave me the left one since he had no use for it. I wore it today for the first time and enjoyed my experience.
The glove itself is thin, and doesn't have those weird noticeable seam folds in the finger tips like many gloves have that I hate. I found it comfortable to wear while throwing and didn't feel like I was wearing a glove. The grip was great. They weren't tacky, but grippy. I was worried about these because I felt like they would be more like receiver gloves and have that weird tackiness that squeaks a bit when you rub your fingers together. I wouldn't find that useful for 1, and that squeak sends shivers down my spine.
Throwing I didn't feel much of a difference other than it kept my snowy discs controlled in my hand. I didn't feel like I lost much power at all, and I actually felt like it helped my flick grip immensely. I can assume these are going to be a godsend when it's raining out!
Where they lose a star are twofold. 1. I hated putting with them. I felt like that extra grip made my putts stick to my hand a touch too much and I ended up losing a hair of power on my putts. I missed a lot of putts low with them on, which isn't where I normally miss. Once I took them off to putt I was right on target again. I would love to not have to ditch them once a hole to putt. 2. They are not particularly warm. Granted, it was -9 with the wind chill today in Massachusetts, but I don't think they provide much warmth in 30 degrees either. It was fine having my gloved hand in my pocket with hand warmers, but the gloves are very clearly designed for grip and function rather than warmth. I can see the design working still with additional depth to the material on the back of the hand.
Overall, I'd say they are worth a try for disc golfers who play in wet environments and want some additional grip and skin coverage against the elements.
