The Shard is an easy-to-throw fairway driver. This beginner-friendly mold offers excellent glide and a dependable flight. For the beginner, this will exhibit a straight flight with a moderate fade. For the advanced player, this will shine in hyzer flips and long overturn throws. The Shard's stability provides a stable enough flight to control and manipulate and maintain the desired flight.

*NOTE* I only give 5-stars out to discs that I bag and throw actively. A 4-star disc is great. It may come in and out of the bag for me, but I could see another player actively bagging it.

The H9 plastic is top quality. It looks awesome and feels great. I found the Shard to be a little more understable than the numbers indicated. That being said, I am throwing this thing on 400' golf lines. Easy flip to flat disc with a very consistent release. I would compare this disc to the Cicada, Centurion, or the Leopard3 in flight. Excellent driving disc and I can see a lot of players finding a good use for this. Especially if they want to pair it with the Cinder which is the more OS counterpart to the Shard.

I am always curious about new companies and was looking at the Shard for a while as it was 175g max weight and with my max distance of approximately 300' currently and normally throwing weights between 165 to 169/170 max weight I was completely surprised to find I didn't lose distance adding the extra grams. As a 7 speed I would normally think it wouldn't affect too many peoples distance but for me I can lose 30' or more adding those extra 5 to 10 grams which is a 10th of my distance. I didn't lose nearly as much off the shelf and have got it to my normal distance after playing a few rounds with it. Laser straight with a slight hyzer and it will flip to flat and glide amazingly straight  and also love having something max weight on those windier days.

The plastic (H9) is top quality. Reminds me of Star Or Esp plastic but with a similar tacky feel to Kastaplast which I would rate as one of the best feeling wise that I have thrown.

I am a big fan of the Obsidian Discs Shard. With a slight hyzer flip throw, this driver is so straight!

I just love throwing golf discs that can beeline down a straight line tunnel, but the faster the disc is the harder it gets to accomplish this feat. The shard is one of those rare fairway drivers where this flight path is possible. I can throw it at decent power, low to the ground and know that it isn't going to have a big fading finish that will skip me out of bounds.

Like I've said in my other Obsidian reviews, the K9 plastic is the real deal. It's just a really good feeling plastic.

If you're looking for a dead straight fairway driver and like having discs different than everyone else on the course, try out the Obsidian Shard.
