This disc is beef!  Like most MVP discs the Photon is very flat.  I mainly use this for forehands in a headwind as this disc will barely turn and always fades hard.  For reference I throw around 325ft forehand/backhand.

Such a great disc, but the stated flight ratings (at least for the 2 Iv thrown) are way off. Mine are massive hooks (RHBH).
Really hated the disc at first until I realized it was a perfect dog leg left disc. I'd put it at 11|5|-0.5|3.
Also, really great for skips at the end of flight on dirt. Nice and smooth on the bottom.

I've thrown both a cosmic neutron (173g) and fission photon (167g), and I have to say they are completely different discs. The fission has more dome and had more stable flight characteristics, but both are pretty stable to over-stable out of the box, more than the numbers would indicate. The neutron plastic has beat in to a nice hyzer flip disc for me, but the fission holds the angle out of the hand despite being more worn, softer, and lighter. I just don't have the arm speed to turn it over currently.

Both are quality discs, I like the overmold but it takes some getting used to.

I am very much a beginner, and my backhands and forehands aren't that great. My overhands, though? That's where I live. The photon is the perfect disc for overhand drives in wooded areas. It goes straight, and stays straight, and can easily be woven through the trees. My other beginner friends hate me when I can park on a single overhand with my photon, and they're +6 after hitting all of the trees the whole way to the pin with their forehands and backhands. I don't like this disc for backhands that much. That's probably due to the beginner nature of the user, though. Let's not talk about my forehands. I think that I've thrown a grand total of two forehands in total in all of my games.

So not sure about this disc. I think it is way over-stable, much more so than the numbers suggest. Regardless of the style throw it flips over and crashes out short.  I have other MVPs / Axiom molds and love them so was excited about it.  My arm speed isn't the best so the 11 speed may be the issue but i have some other higher ones that don't have this issue. I hope i just have fluke. I have tried throwing it forehand (not my strong suite) and back hand on all angles and it's about 50/50 it'll give me 250+ with a HARD fade or just crash out 150 feet away.

The pros tho.. disc is beautiful.  The rim is pretty wide and deep but i have bigger hands so fits pretty nicely.

A great disc to build a bad around!

Proton plastic is a GREAT meat-hook. Solid, reliable disc for windy rounds.

The Neutron plastic clearly has more turn than the proton plastic above, with a reliable fade at the end.

Fission plastic in this mold is quite a bit less stable compared to the proton above, but thrown flat will still have a fade back to the center of the fairway with some practice.

Flight rating between the three plastics in regard to turn could vary, but 11/5/-1/2.5 is a fair rating - MVP has done very well this this overmold!

    I have three photons; a 171g Neutron, a 170g Proton and a 161g Fission.

The neutron photon is gummy and flat. The wing is slightly angled downward at the end, which I find comfortable for both forehands and backhands. I can get some smooth high speed turn and a reliable fade out to 400ft. Fills the role of a max distance driver, but I tend to avoid throwing it in heavy wind.

    11/5/-1/2

The proton has a pop-top dome and is slightly stiffer than the neutron one. The wing has the same comfortable downward shape, but the flight is significantly more overstable. I tend to use this for forehands that need to carry farther than my Fireball before dumping or for backhand drives into a headwind.

    11/5/0/2.5

The Fission has the same dome and feel as the proton in a gummier, lighter plastic. For me, this disc flies just as stable as the proton, even with the lighter weight. However, I suspect it will beat in to become slightly less stable than the neutron.

Love this disc! Out of the box the neutron has no turn to it and plays as a slightly glidy driver with some stability to it but once it gets worn in it has a small turn that puts it into glide mode and a small fade to keep it in check. This disc is relable for both backhand and forehand, this IS my go-to forehand distance disc! I can rely on ripping the disc on a slight hyzer and watch it flip to flat, ride straight and fade in the end for about 300ft sidearms. The rim is also the perfect size and disc profile fits for a comfortable feel; defy is similar but the photon just feels better. Looking to get a cosmic neutron photon to have overstable for winds to compliment the neutron photon.

Disc - 173 MVP Neutron Photon

Feel - The photon has a generally flat top and a slim profile. The rim is not very wide and fits nicely in the hand. It has the overmold that all MVP discs do but it is not super noticeable.

Flight - The photon is a great flyer. For me, I could throw it hard and flat and expect a straight flight and then a nice fade at around 375. It's not a max distance disc for me at least, I prefer destroyers for that, but the photon is great for shots that you need to ensure it won't turn too much for you.

Overall - I really liked the flight of the photon until i lost it a couple of weeks ago and I'm still looking for a disc to fill its slot. I would recommend this disc to players that prefer MVP discs but I'm not a huge fan of the feel of their discs so I will probably be going with a defender or a force to fill the same slot in my bag.

I just picked this disc up recently.   First impression is thar that it is a further flying slightly less over stable Tesla.  Actually it seems to act just like the original Destroyer from way back.  This disc thrown with a good amount of mustard on a slight hyzer (RH/BH) will stand up and go straight for what seems like forever and end with a gentle fade to a nice skip.  It will definitely break the 400' mark if thrown with enough heat.  I throw usually around 325 to 350 and this disc went well over that.  Excellent disc.  Highly recommend it to intermediate or better players.

The Photon is an over-stable disc. It will fade back despite any angle it is thrown. In max weight the disc is very similar to a Destroyer, but I also bag one in 166g and it throws similar to a Tesla. I throw around 400 feet, and throwing the Photon flat will result in a small degree of high speed turn followed by the fading hook at the end. This disc is great for big hyzers, spike hyzers, and forehand shots.

I give it an 11/5/-.5/2.5 as it is fast, does have glide, but I believe less high speed turn than advertised.

I throw 300 both B/H and F/H flies straight for longer than expected and fades late. like most of my -1 disc will turn when thrown into 25 mph headwind or worse. i bag this neutron plastic disc love how it feels in the hand and how versatile it is. farthest throwing F/H disc currently. i would rate it 11, 4.5, -.5, 2

A very sweet distance driver for people with big arms or forehand players that want a disc that doesn't shake itself out of the air. This thing shrugs off OAT (Off axis torque), and slices through the air with surgical precision.

Holds lines like a champ, and will always fade consistently.

This thing is my main driver for a reason. Personally, I throw in the 440-500 foot range with tons of torque and these are perfect. Thrown flat, a 160g Neutron will turn mostly into the ground if not given enough height, but with enough height, it will BOMB. My best throw with one of these is 507 feet. On a slight hyzer, I can get it to flip up and ride an S-curve to about 450-460 feet. Lastly, my favorite shot with this lighter weight Photon is a flip up from a hyzer which will ride dead straight for 420-430 feet.

Recently, I got a max weight Neutron Photon, which I use as my main driver for lighter headwinds and crosswinds. With a straight throw, I can get it to turn slightly, before fading back pretty hard (430 feet). On any amount of hyzer, it will not turn over, but hold the hyzer the whole way (370+ feet).  This thing can shape S curves on a slight anny like nobody's business.

At different weights and stages of wear, you can use this disc in any slot you need it in.

The photon is a fairly overstable high speed driver. It flies like it's rated. I have neutron plastic which is fairly soft. I definitely prefer the feel of the proton plastic as it's stiffer and feels better in my hand for forehand shots which is what I primarily use my MVP discs for. I don't have the power to throw this disc backhand (I throw on average around 350'). But it flies like it's rated (as pretty much all MVP discs do).

The Photon was a little strange for me. Very flat topped and stubbornly beefy. I'm not sure if all Photons are like this or if the one I have is aberrant. I thought it flew like a McBeth star Destroyer (beefy w/ lack of glide). It handled headwinds well and showed no signs at all of flipping. The Photon slices through the air decently, but isn't a super glider. Stubborn disc for me overall and I wasn't ridiculously impressed. I thought the Octane had similar flight characteristics, but was a longer disc with better glide.

The Photon takes a LOT of arm to make it fly. If you underthrow it the disc fades out quickly and gains little distance. The few great throws I had with the Photon I had to earn. If you're able to get any high speed turn the disc will hold that for a while and actually go a long way.

This is my go to sidearm disc. It is very stable and I can crank on it as hard as I can without fear of it breaking over. It has great glide and with some power it will fly straight forever. As for a backhand disc, it is too overstable for me. I do not have a very powerful backhand though. For a backhand, I have found the fisson plastic to be a great option.

Awesome disc. The grip of this disc is comfortable, the rim comes to a very sharp point. Which is expected.

This disc is pretty awesome, the stability of the disc is good. It flies straight and far. I've gotten some of the farthest throws with this disc and as such it is a great disc. The stability of this disc makes it a great choice for throws into head winds. But also it isn't to stable that it is too hard to have decent drives with it. This disc is a great disc if you really want to crank on it and put some great power behind it. This disc handles the power and goes far.

Shaping this disc isn't an option. It flies straighter than what the flight path says it'll fly.

Distance wise as I have said it flies really far, I've never measured. I've thrown it straight and even with a hyzer line, and both have elicited about the same distance.

Overall this disc is a great stable driver. It will go far and it is easy to throw.

This disc in Neutron has become my long distance workhorse.  It will hold an anhzyer line until very late in it's spin down, and when released flat gives a very controlled turn before fading.  I can reliably get 400+ on a throw even with a tailwind.

I also have this disc in Fission plastic, which I use for sky rollers, or ridiculous hyzer roll-over shots, but I wouldn't recommend this plastic for any moderate throwers who are looking to gain distance.  The idea and concept behind the Fission is great, but at the end of the day the disc is still light and will not behave the same as the Neutron.

Very similar to my Star Destroyer in flight.  A little less overstable so it can turn over if you are not careful but on a good throw it will go straight for a long while before you see the predictable fade.  My 171g Photon stays in my bag when I need something a little less overstable than my Destroyer or when I need less fade.  Also can be a lazer if flicked properly.

168 Neutron. RHBH I have relatively fast arm speed with moderate snap 375-425 no wind. I turn over max weight bolts and Kings level. Thrown level... This disc will take a small non-agressive turn and hold level for quite a bit. Compared to a destroyer and nuke it is less stable but still trustworthy. Dosent skip. Will most likely never be your max S driver but will be reliable distance that takes good torque and is true to its numbers flat. Can be an easy single-hyzer. Can be a forehand option. Big fan

It took me a bit of time to "figure this disc out" and I still don't get it to do what I want all the time (that refrain probably sounds familiar to most of you)...but the Photon is my go to forehand distance driver.  When it flies right, which it often does, I enjoy watching a beautiful S-turn that finishes with a right fade.  The neutron plastic feels very good in the hand.  The narrow profile makes it a tad tricky to throw.  But when it does what it is supposed to do it is absolutely my favourite disc to watch.  I have also thrown the Fission plastic, and can see why some people are so excited about the extra distance they can get because of the lower weight...but I still like my 168 Neutron.

Great disc. Replaced my destroyers. Same distance but a much better feel and durability.

My only complaint is mvp/axiom needs to come out with a plastic blend that does not have the gyro. Dont get me wrong its amazing but i have to keep a destroyer in my bag for skip shots. Mvp doesnt skip which is good and bad

My Neutron plastic Photon is 157g.  The flight numbers are the same as the Innova Destroyer (12,5,-1,3), but the Photon is nowhere near as overstable as the Destroyer.  I'd give the Photon a rating of 12,5,-1,1.5 to 2).  The Photon gets good distance (almost speed 13 distance) without being nearly as hard to throw as a Destroyer.  The Photon has done well for me in moderate headwinds and downwind throws.  The Photon is a good compliment to the MVP Wave in my bag.
