I found this in my box of discs after taking a surgery-related decade or so off of disc golf. I have no memory of acquiring this or ever playing with it, but it had my name on it in Sharpie, so there's that. I bought a practice basket and put clear stickers on the back of all my putters to figure out which was the most effective. I would gather up 20 or so putt & approach discs from my wonderbox and practice from various positions in my yard. If it was in the basket, it got a tick mark on the sticker.

This disc is so high and the material is so slippery for me, that it always felt weird in my hand. It just never felt right, but darn if this disc didn't have one of the highest tallies of successes in my box o' discs. I still haven't taken it out on a course because I bag a different putter, but I definitely came to respect this disc.

    Initial Post

I have been looking for a good, solid putter that I could also (possibly) use as an approach as well. I stumbled across this putter on the cheap (factory second due to stamping issues) and had to snag it up, and I am glad I did. I initially took it to a field so I could check to see if it had indeed been damaged, and it was not. Though, I found it to turn and fade less than cited, but for me that is not a bad thing. I actually like that it has a hint of each and nothing more. Not to be outdone when it comes to characteristics, this putter will fly out to 200 fairly easy to use an approach, hitting straight out from your release. Good glide, and in my opinion, more glide than cited as well. Also, I noticed on landing that the Rubber Putter stuck to the ground without a hint of slide or skip. This could be a good or bad thing depending on your style of playing. After about 30 minutes of field work I then went and played 27 holes with it, and was I impressed.

First off, it is grippy, real grippy. It does indeed feel like rubber, but it is not. It has a great feel and release, however, and this may be due to this disc coming in at 166g with my usual putters being over the 170g mark. Still, it seems to jump out of your hand toward the basket. More than once I overshot due to it flying from my hand. Yet, it still stayed true to the basket, even if I overshot it. After a hole or four I had it fairly dialed in. And, remember when I said it sticks to the ground, well, it sticks the chains even better.

My Discraft Challenger (Pro D) I have been using has a tendency to hit the chains only to turn sideways and try to spit out the other side. Not the Rubber Putter. It hits the chains and sticks there falling straight down to the basket, every time. No more worry of a disc spit out robbing me of the hole now.

All-In-all, I am more than happy thus far. This putter is bag locked unless I find a better one, which is doubtful. It fits my playing style and fills a bit of a gap I had in my bag for approach, which it is equally good at in regards to its straight flight and no slide/skip aspects on landing. And, before I forget, as if you need any more reasons to try one, it floats too. Top that!

    Added Edit

Though everything I initially said about this putter is true, I have noticed a change as of late I am not understanding. To start, this disc now starts to fly extremely right (RHBH throw) if given the least amount of a hard throw, be it into or with the wind. Has my arm gotten stronger/faster since I initially got this putter regarding approach drives and shots? Did it warp in my bag? I have not hit anything too outstanding with it (trees), and I see no warp from my bag either.

Why has this happened, and to the point where I can physically feel myself throwing this disc with less and less power from my arm (RHBH) to get it to fly straight? I noticeably power down more and more to toss this disc out on approaches and drives, to the point, and coupled with the hard right flight, that I throw it only on water drives now since it still floats. Funny enough, my friend who has a Rubber Putter has noticed the same occurrences, just not as much, and his arm is as strong as mine, if not stronger.

The other aspect that I have notices as of late is that my Rubber Putter will also flutter from my hand almost consistently, no matter how I throw it. Not a flutter from under or over throwing either, but an odd flutter in flight for about the first 5th of the distance thrown. I am at a loss to be honest and not happy about the latest turn of events for this disc. I hope it is simply a matter of a defect with the disc since I did purchase it as a “Factory Second”. Maybe I am throwing it “wrong” now in comparison. As always, I will edit my post here if something comes up. Still a 4/5 stars and a good disc to have in your bag, so long as it does not develop the “disc flu” like mine has. As of now I believe it to be me more so than the disc, to be fair.

The Rubber Putter is one of the most underrated putters on the market. Many people will discount it just because it is made by Lightning. Nonsense. Lightning has some very fine discs in their lineup. The Rubber Putter is one of them. It just feels rubbery, it is not actually made of rubber, and it floats in water at all weights! This can be a good thing, or a bad thing depending on your particular water hazard. It  is a tall disc that looks kind of cumbersome, but it glides forever. At normal putting speeds it behaves like an overstable putter, even withstanding some degree of headwinds. When driving it has a natural S hyser in its flight, fading predictably and pulling back out strongly. It has a very predicatble and actually forgiving 200-250 foot range when driving. Its tall shape and long glide make it a natural fit for beginners coming from recreational Frisbees.
