The Gateway Houdini is a reliable approach disc with a flat top design that makes it perfect for both forehand and backhand shots. This versatile disc can handle a lot of power, while also serving as the perfect touch disc for short range throws around the green. The Houdini features a unique "side-bead" which is a small bead on the slope of the rim, close to the bottom lip of the disc.

When I first tried this disc, I didn't see anyway it was making my bag. It just...feels weird. The side bead or whatever is odd to say the least. But I was committed to giving it a fair shake so I compared it to my other throwing putters to see if there was a slot for it. And suprisingly, there is. In Eraser plastic, this disc is very overstable. The closest comparison I have is a First Run Sockibomb Slammer. The SureGrip is nearly as overstable but will probably beat in to slightly overstable. For me, this disc slots just above my Get Freaky Zone in stability. Other than the side bead, it's nearly a Zone OS. It's slightly deeper than a Zone and more overstable. I don't think I'll throw this disc much, but if I need more than a Get Freaky but not a Deflector, this will see some use.

The Houdini from Gateway is their newest approach disc that bridges the gap between something like a Wizard or Devilhawk. Comparing it to the most popular approach discs on the market, such as the Zone, this disc falls closer to the "putt" side of "putt and approach" by hand feel. It is slightly taller than a Zone and flies a bit slower, though it has more glide. The depth is not uncomfortable by any means, and the "double beaded" bottom doesn't feel like a beaded disc at all, as it still comes to a pretty defined edge on the bottom of the wing. It will push straight on a backhand and glide sharply to the ground, it won't be as dumpy as something like a Get Freaky Zone or even a Devilhawk. It's not as torque resistant as a Zone either, as its rim is thinner and more putter-like, but even average forehand approach players will get great use from this mold. It doesn't ever seem fazed by a headwind and simply floats through all of it before finishing to the ground. The flat top and curved edge feel great for both forehands and backhands. For Gateway throwers who don't jive with the Devilhawk, this is a great one to get. For anyone looking to get an approach disc that's just going to be different from anything your friends throw, then you can't go wrong with this one. Or, if you keep leaving approaches short with your Zone, this would compliment that nicely. If I could compare it directly to any disc's flight, it would fly closest to a Ruin or a fresh Pig, but with more glide.

I can only assume that this will beat in to maintain its headwind fighting ability but just lessen its pronounced fade. A must-have slot for any disc golfer who knows that beef isn't always the answer.

This disk is amazing! Great for approach shots. Similar to a Harp but more overstable. I was messing around and started putting with it and was smashing circle 2 putts that I normaly miss. 5 stars!
