The Apex is a workhorse, high-speed driver with a straight flight path that allows for maximum distance with only moderate fade. It is the kind of distance driver that can be added to any bag for a variety of long throws off the tee or across the fairway.

I have this in a 178g Platinum plastic.  This is my go-to driver.  I bought this disc before I had any idea what I should buy.  I made the common rookie mistake of buying a few high-speed overstable drivers thinking that is what I wanted.  I don't even know why I tried this disc.  However, right away I noticed that I was consistent with this disc and got decent distance.  It probably was too much disc for me early on (it might still be), but it is forgiving enough that it has allowed me to build confidence and develop into this disc.  Gateway doesn't seem to have many light-weight options, but Apex has enough glide/lift to compensate for even the 178g weight of my disc and the slower release speeds of a beginner.  Lighter glide 6 discs will lift more and sail a little further when it isn't windy, but the weight of this disc means that I can throw it in any conditions and expect the same results.  This is a GREAT disc that I highly recommend.  Gateway's Platinum plastic is excellent.  I have thrown this against more tree trunks than I would like to admit, but the disc shows no sign of wear.  I highly recommend this disc and hope/expect that I will not take it out of my bag any time soon (if ever).

This is a Destroyer wanna-be, and it does a terrific job at it. My only regret was not getting the Evolution Diamond plastic (I got Evolution Platinum), so it has been getting beaten up pretty good.

I've found that his has been reliable in windy situations, and for hyzers around and over trees.

I was very surprised when I threw this disc. This disc had a very straight line for a 12 speed and is as stable as it gets. I have this disc in a diamond plastic that is very similar to a champion disc. Good for forehands and backhands but the backhand throw hand hold a straighter line. I suggest people use this to practice angle control with a forehand. I am not sure about any of the other plastics but this disc is reasonably priced with a high reward so I suggest getting it in your bag.

I really like this driver, it had a slight turn at the beginning but is stable enough to fade back and finish. It's overall a fairly straight flying disc. I love it for forehand shots as I can throw it on a slight anheizer and get a pretty good s-curve out of it for good distance. I'm still figuring it out for backhand and usually prefer the gateway Journey for backhand, but I think that's more me as a player than this disc. I'd highly recommend it!

Amazing driver! I bag a first run and a stock run both in diamond plastic. The stock run is a tic more overstable but still not a meat hook. I typically drive 375ish ft and this is the disc that pushed me over 400 ft. Highly recommend

    UPDATED REVIEW: Still 5 stars!!!

    177g Evolution Diamond 12 / 6 / -1 / 2

    178g Evolution Dyed 12 / 6 / -1 / 2

    177g Evolution Platinum 12 / 6 / -1.5 / 2

After throwing the Apex for a few months now I can confidently say this is a consistent driver that is perfect for controlled distance.  They are pretty much interchangeable with my 2 S-Line DDXs.  Straight with tons of glide, slight turnover and smooth (but consistent) fade at the end.

Think of it as a perfectly beat in Destroyer but with a straighter finish and more glide. Easily Gateway's best driver in my opinion.  Great plastic, glide, consistency, control, feel in the hand, sweet logo.  This driver has it all.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I find the Evolution Platinum to be just a tiny hair more understable than the Diamond or Dyed.  I gave it a -1.5 turn instead of -1.

I would venture to say that the Apex is the best Gateway brand distance driver I've thrown so far. It is not too overstable, it has a great combination of speed and glide, and it has a comfortable feel in the hand. I was able to put some heat on the Apex and it seemed to have a great balance between the turn and fade, finishing relatively straight for great distance. It was an easy disc to control. I felt like a couple of the older Gateway drivers had problems with consistency, but the Apex was very predictable and accurate on long, straight drives. When I put some hyzer on it, then I got more fade, which is what the disc should do-- thus it was easy to control and worked nicely with my style.

Though the Apex might be a bit high-speed for most beginners, I don't feel like it exaggerates the turn or fade enough to be problematic for newer players. It seems to be a good, neutral distance driver for players who want to work on their speed and distance. It won't be a good primary driver for a starter, but a respectable distance driver for working up to that higher level.

Oh man!!!  I just grabbed one of these up from the Gateway store yesterday and this thing is great!  12 | 6 | -1 | 2 are very accurate numbers.  What it lacks in speed it makes up for in glide!  glide for days!!!

Don't hesitate to pick one of these up if you've been curious

I'm giving this five stars because it is the first driver from Gateway that I'm really liking! Some of the other drivers seemed finicky, or less reliable... but the Apex is an awesome disc! This flies true to it's numbers- and they are normal numbers, not gateway glide 12 stuff...

Anyway- the diamond plastic feels really good. The rim is a little thicker, but still feels manageable for bomber throws. It turns a bit off the bad, but comes back at the end. If you crank it really hard you might get some more turn out of it before it comes back for long distance. It flew fairly straight for me for quite a long ways, or if I put more anny I got a bigger flex line out of it. The glide 6 feels right, it does tend to fall forward, extending it's reach at the end of the throw.

Overall, I'm impressed with the Apex and see it as a great option for a long distance driver!
