The Element Discs' Plutonium is a new stable putter, meant to allow for slow-fading drives. Element Discs describes the disc as "a versatile putter that holds the line it is put on. When thrown flat, the Plutonium will resist turn at high speeds but also has a slow gentle fade with a soft finish. No need to worry about skipping by the basket, as the Element Discs Plutonium sits down just like their first disc, the Iridium. This disc is a little faster than most putters so it is perfect for those shots in between putter and mid. It also finds a place in the putting game with a subtle thumb track and slightly shallow rim with small bead, which some find more comfortable in the hand."

I finally picked up a couple of these to try.  I have been a Fan of the RDG top on Gateway bottoms since the Scale.

    First, this disc:

Feels great, comfortable, rounded, just feels right for a chunky slower/low glide (relatively) approach disc/putter.  It flies fairly straight with a hint of turn and a slightly larger hint of fade.  Though there were times where I threw this on a small hyzer and it flipped over and rode a slight anny line.  It didn't seem to be strong enough to fight out of the Anny.  The very rounded shape to it creates a almost constant turn/fade flight, where it is a straight disc, but its a little turn then little fade.  I found it not too trust in the wind unless it was a shorter shot in which the low glide keeps it safe.  I wanted to really love this thing, but sadly The only reason I wouldn't give it 5/5 is I feel the RDG Serpent is a better disc flight.  It's the same idea, Straight/Stable Bulky putter, but the Serpent just seemed to fly a stable line better.  The Serp has a Magic bottom, its a little more blocky or squared where the Pu is rounded. rounder/smoother feels better but in flight it doesnt lock on lines as easy.   Overall its a good disc and i like it, but since i have worked with the Serpent and tested them both back to back in a field in different conditions I feel its far to similar of a disc flight to justify having both and to me the Serpent flies better....Though I did like the feel of the Pu better the flight is really what matters

And the Pu is a nice flight, but i couldn't really trust it when i gave it a good throw even with a low slight hyzer release in headwind.   Of course its to be expected but something not super OS.    I pair my approach discs so My OS Appraoch is the Iridium, the other putter by Element and I Highly recommend that for an Straight to OS slow glideless approach, and for straight I think this is fine, i just prefer the Serpent.  But I will carry this in my to-go bag because its still a nice disc

The Plutonium has turned out to be exactly what I was wanting from a putter.

Before I was using two different putters for drives/upshots and putting, the Prodiscus Sparta and Dynamic Discs Warden respectively.  I had been trying to find a putter that was more reliable in the Midwest winds than the Warden, and the Plutonium is impressive!  It has flight similar to a Westside Shield, feels similar to the Latitude 64 Dagger, but it just had provided more responsiveness and resistance to high speed turn.

In the initial trips to the course I tested it off of the tee on many different lines.  On a hyzer line the Plutonium will hold a very predicable line, even under full power, and then it manages to just sit nicely in the landing.  The resistance to turn also allows good anhyzer shots, it will hold the line of release without dumping over and then fight to a straight, gentle finish.

The bead was my initial concern with the putter as I do not like beaded putters.  The bead on the Plutonium is almost non-existant, I would say even less prominant than the Dagger.  It provides a clean release and excellent ability to resist skips.  It does have some roll away potential, but I feel like it doesn't happen enough to really worry about.

Next concern was the thumb track.  When you get the Plutonium in your hands for the first time you wonder how the track will play in the hand.  I found that due to my natural grip it has not affected my circle putting, but noticed that naturally my thumb falls into it on approach shots.  Surprisingly, it doesn't bother me and feels a little bit comfortable.  The best benefit of the thumb track is a very solid, comfortable side arm grip.  The turn resistance of the Plutonium allows you to forehand it with ease and has amazing control.  I feel like the thumb track adds to that feeling since it is a deeper putter.

The Element Discs Plutonium is a complete package and has successfully taken over at least two slots in my bag.  I would highly recommend any player to try one based on it's overwhelming performance on the approach!

Element really has a good one with the Plutonium!

The super rounded edge, minimal bead, and shallower depth make this disc feel really nice in the hand for both putting and throwing. The thumb track isn't drastic, and the grip along the nose of the disc is really nice. Everyone I handed it to liked the feel of it.

Playing a round with it I felt comfortable with it in the circle. Clean release with a true line and it grabbed the chains well for me. I hit a few out of the circle putts with it too, but I certainly left a few longer ones out there. I like glidy-ier putters and this just doesn't float like I am used to with my Wardens. With some additional work, I could probably learn to putt pretty well with the Plutonium, but I do not see it kicking my Wardens out.

I liked it as an approach thrower. I was able to thread the needle through the trees with it a number of times, and it had a very soft fade to it at the end of its flight. I did not try to drive with it.

The only two knocks I have on it is that it doesn't float as well as I like my putters to (but thats entirely personal opinion) and the rounded rim makes it a roll away risk. I had one "hey now where are you going...stop stop stop...not stopping" conversation with this one as it rolled further and a further away.

If you like neutral putters, this is a good one. It is not as floaty, so more aggressive spin putters may find this to be a nice reliable putter that won't zip too far away from the basket on a miss. Of the Element line, this is one that probably would have the best chance of making it into my bag if I felt like changing something up.

When I first picked up this disc at a store the first thing that I got drawn towards was the symmetry on the edges of the disc. Tossing it back and forth to someone I noticed how clean it's able to leave the hand. As a spin putter the shallow groove on top of the disc help me place my thumb on the location of the disc to get the most power. This is for sure one of my favorite discs in my bag as its helped me it to shoot my highest rated rounds in 2016.

In short, this disc flies like a low glide Aviar. The rim is deep (almost too deep for my small hands) but the thumb track on top shifts the hand into a better position to hold the disc. When rotating it flies straight and true. It's fairly wind resistant when putting with its low glide (low glide also means with little rotation it's overstable). If you are looking for a new putter definitely give this one a try!
