I got several Max Grip discs for Christmas to flesh out my Divergent set and weather has finally enabled me to get out and start doing some field work to test them out. Overall I've been very pleased with the whole selection of their discs. Then I saw this new addition to their line-up and decided to grab it, too -- although oddly, it isn't presently available in the same Max Grip plastic, so I have the Max Value version. It actually feels grippier and seems to have a bit more give to it than the Max Grip discs I got early last year (which had seemed a mite stiff and would give a rather wonky sounding klunk & bounce when hitting the ground at an angle), and wasn't too far off from my new Max Grip discs. The Kataw feels in the hand and releases cleanly for me. I've no complaints about how it flies: the numbers seem about right to me. It flies pretty much straight and level for a good ways before giving a pretty consistent fade -- although this was less than expected when thrown into the wind, so I give it a slightly lower fade rating. It didn't turn over into the wind, but stayed pretty level veering bit by bit to the right (RHBH); with a tailwind, its fade was definitely more pronounced. I get pretty good distance with it and it pairs well with its midrange sibling the Kapre. For beginners, this might work better for those who favor forehands, otherwise the stability might be a bit too much for starters. I tend to favor the higher grade plastics for their durability, but we'll see how well the Max Grip holds up over the course of a full season. I did have the very understable Max Grip Leviathan get popped up and turned over in the wind a couple times and go careening off into a parking lot and another time into a telephone pole, and for all the speed coming down from up high and hitting hard rough surfaces, it doesn't show much wear; so that bodes well for the durability of the Max Grip. Definitely a step up from the DX-type grades.
