Discmania Signature S-Line P2

Discmania Signature S-Line P2

The P2 is a straight flying, but slightly overstable putter made by Discmania. This disc is stable enough that it can handle headwind throws and fairly long approach shots. This putter was designed specifically for pro players, but can be useful for disc golfers of all skill levels. This was the first disc that Discmania brought back when they took over their own production.

The P2 has become famous for being in the bag of Paul McBeth, Simon Lizotte, Nate Sexton and Eagle McMahon. There's a reason that all those high-level players use the P2...it's a great disc. The P2 is a modified Aviar, and is deeper and more overstable than the popular Aviar putter. This gives the P2 more wind resistance and makes for a great driving putter, though it will need a little hyzer angle if you don't want too much turn. The P2 excels at drives and approaches, and is great for putting. Just know that it is a very deep putter.

Model:

I have a Paul McBeth 3x Signature S-Line P2 (175g) that I ordered from the Discmania factory store.

The Plastic:

This run of signature plastic resides somewhere between production run Star Line plastic and Gstar with more flexibility than standard s-line and less give than Gstar. I find this plastic to be Perfect because it is durable, absorbs tree hits well (not so violent kicks), without the sacrifice in stability and glide that appears with Gstar plastic.

Grip/Feel:

The Signature S-Line plastic has a great somewhat tacky somewhat gummy feel that is sturdy but not floppy.

The disc has a nice blunt round nose, a flat top, medium to deep rim depth, and it feels perfect in my hands (I have fairly large hands at a somewhat lanky 6'1) for power grip.

When I was seriously working through my power grip for the first time this disc helped me discover the grip I'd been looking for. It feels great in the hand.

Driving:

The Discmania P2 is my favorite driving putter. It is very stable and will stay straight with minimal fade when thrown flat. Thrown on Hyzer it will maintain a gentle hyzer throughout the shot but cannot be used to cut hard corners (that's what my Pig is for). When this disc was still new I could even put a little Anhyzer on it and it would fight out at the very end to straight (A really nice shot for tall basket ace run drives).

Approach Shots:

This disc is also good for gentle hyzer approach shots or stall anhyzer approaches. That being said - I Prefer my Prodigy PA-4 for approaches because I like to attack the basket straight or from a turnover angle on longer approaches and I find the PA-4 easier to throw straight. I will throw the P2 for gentle hyzers under the bucket when I'm not throwing a 'go for it' approach.

Putting:

I don't use the P2 for putting. I purchased the premium plastic because I intended to use the disc as a driving putter. The rim depth and blunt nose are a little too large for my putting grip (but perfect for my driving and approach power grip). I also find that the stability of this disc doesn't suit my putting style (straight - not hyzer). I would give putting a shot in a lower grade (P or D) plastic, but I'm happy with my putter feel (XD+ w/shallow rim/domey) right now so I don't see a need to force the issue to something with a significantly different feel.

Wear:

Unfortunately after about 6 months of throwing wear I can no longer get the anhyzer flex out of this disc but it is still my Go To off the Tee for flat & hyzer to slight-turnover putter drives. Despite the inability of this disc to perform this shot any longer the disc has worn in very well and I can now throw hyzer-flips with the disc (also very useful).

I will likely be getting another signature S-line (IV time) soon to cover the Anhyzer flex putter shot that I'm missing an relegate that P2 to that shot in an attempt to keep it in my bag longer.

Recommendation:

Get one! Learn to throw your putters off the tee - they are very controlable. This disc is perfect for intermediate and pro players and would also be suitable for most beginners learning to throw putters.
