The Alpha is the first disc released by Mint Discs. It is a versatile fairway driver that works for a variety of different situations. This is a true power fairway driver designed to go straight without turning over and then finishing with a reliable fade. This disc is stable enough that it can fight headwinds, but not so overstable that it can't be thrown by newer disc golfers.

In this mold you can find a lot of flights. I would say the Alpha is more an 8.5- 9 Speed disc.  This is very run dependent. Run 2 in any plastic is the most sought after but that run is more like the Jackalope from mint discs in flight 8/5/-1/2. Some runs are domey like 03 and some are flat like 05 sublime. It is a great disc that I had multiple in the bag. Flat for forehand, more turn, more straight, overstable, meat hook. One single alpha doesnt represent them all.

I would recomend the Eternal 05 in the 170-172 range for 8/5.5/-.5/2

This is my first disc from Mint discs and I must say that they make truly incredible plastic. I grabbed this Alpha in sublime plastic and I have never felt my grip slip on this disc. It can also take a beating because all of my courses are very rocky with sage brush (that's what you get for living in a desert). I love the flex to it and as a RHBH if you put a little anhyzer on your release you should see a consistent flip up to flat for an excellent drive of 300+. I've only started disc golf in April but this has become one of my go to fairway drivers. I think the numbers are true so I think I just don't have the arm speed to get it truly flat on hyzer alone.

Rating this disc as a RH (Forehand and backhand) player, with an average long drive distance of about 350'.

I would say this disc pretty much flies like an explorer, or teebird. It feels a tiny bit faster, and flies a touch further.

I threw a teebird3 for the longest time, and would say this replaced that slot in my bag, however, it glides a bit more like a standard teebird, so warning...

For forehand throws, this thing will turn a bit if you put a lot of torque on it. Definitely more like a star teebird or gold explorer. For backhand throws, it feels a little bit stronger and flights like comparable champion plastic discs.

The sublime plastic is the best looking plastic on the market. It's hard to throw Mint Sublime plastic, but the alpha mold feels so good in the hand, I will just be careful and hope to find more in the future!

If you like the Explorer you'll love the Alpha.

Mint Discs out of Austin, TX has somewhat of a cult following and I certainly understand why. They simply make great discs.

The Alpha will have some differences in flight based on the plastic (Apex, Sublime, or Eternal) and what batch the run is.

I currently have 4 Alphas: 2 Eternals which now fly for me like 8 4 -0.5 2 and where my Explorer ends up 300' this will go that extra 30' with about the same fade at the end.

The two Sublimes I have are more domey and more overstable. Their flights are about (not exact) around 8 4 0 3. They both double as OS backhand fairways and finesse Stable forehand discs.

I can honestly take one of eternal plastic Alphas and one sublime Alphas to my shorter par 3 and 4 courses and do just as good, if not better on some days, than I would with my higher speed distance drivers.

If you're lucky enough to find an Alpha... buy it and be sure to not lose it.

Disc - 174 Sublime Glow Alpha

Feel - The Alpha that I have is extremely domey which makes it a bit less comfortable in the hand in my opinion but it still flies very nicely. It has a nice controllable feeling rim and the plastic is great

Flight - The Alpha reminds me a lot of the teebird3 or teebird or explorer. It has a good amount of glide and is fairly straight with a nice finish at the end of the flight. I really enjoyed the alpha but since I have a nice stack of teebirds and explorers it probably will not make the bag. I also really enjoy how mint has the run of the disc on them. It is very nice to help replace lost discs or discs that beat in,

Overall - The alpha is a great fairway that flies really nice and hope that mint discs continue to grow as they seem like a great company.

My Alpha had a large dome on it which made it awkward in my hand at first but once I grew accustom to the dome it flew where I expected it to. Flies similar to a teebird or Explorer. Controllable and torque resistant with reliable fade at low speeds. The plastic is grippy with medium flex.

I forget which run I had, but I wasn't too happy with it. I wanted to support a Texas company and figured I'd give the Mint Alpha a try. I, liking Teebirds, figured this would be comparable. The numbers were close, all the reviews seemed pretty good, but the disc just didn't hold up to what was promised. Anything out beyond 320' with any amount of wind would cause this disc to turn and turn and turn. My experience was that it wasn't as reliable as a Teebird would be. So I have to take down a star there.

The second star is removed from how different the discs are by run and by color. To some I understand this is a feature. But after looking at some at a Play it Again in Austin, it's not my cup of tea. Some of the discs (all same plastic and red) were wildly different.  They were the same run but some were outrageously domey to the point of it looking like a pregnant belly to others being flat. I asked the guy behind the counter if they were X-outs and he said they weren't. Those that were different plastic and different runs were also all very different in dome and from Mint's publishing, would fly different.

So, two stars removed for me. I would have removed one more because the disc just wasn't what I hoped it'd be, but I know plenty of others who really like this disc. It works for them. I traded off mine to a kind gentleman for a Pinnacle Rival I wanted to try out.

The 3rd run Alpha (171g) is a pretty situational disc for me. I most often use it for headwind drives when I'm afraid that my teebird could flip. It handles torque very well both forehand and backhand. I can see it getting a ton of use on more open, windy courses. The slight dome is comfortable in the hand, and the sublime plastic is well sublime: very tough and reasonably grippy. Thrown RHFH it does tend to get a bit more ground play than my firebird (160g Star), which can be a good thing in the right situation.

As an Austin resident, I was obliged to give the Alpha a try and I'm glad I did. The integrated serial number on the disc stamp is something I'd like to see from other manufacturers. It makes tracking down a replacement infinitely easier - even for a stock run. Looking forward to more from Mint Discs!

This review is on red sublime 175 g dinosaur alpha. I throw this disc a lot, it is a laser beam with almost no fade at the end and what fade there is it fades forward for max distance. this is a must bag disc! it is so accurate, and this can handle some power without turn. The sublime plastic has a great feel in the hand and im thinking i might need to get more of these.

I have bagged a 175 g eternal first run for about a year, it is also awesome, but its a bit more stable with a touch more fade. Great forehand disc and great back hand and handles wind pretty good. now i feel like i have the perfect complement to that with this run of sublime plastic.

Since i started playing disc golf i have always bagged a FD because it is a great straight disc for easy distance and for smooth turn over shots. This red sublime kicked the FD's out of my bag.SERIOUSLY. I am telling you this does the job of an FD better with more accurate control and no turn with power.

I was hesitant to buy this disc, because I had just bought a lat 64 Explorer to be my straight fairway driver. But I had heard good things about the Alpha and wanted to give it a try.

The Sublime plastic is pretty nice. Grippy and looks good. Feels similar ot MVP Plasma plastic. I went to Mint Discs website because they have the stability ratings for each run and color, something no other disc company does that I know of. I settled on a 173g 4th run Orange Sublime.

Throwing it full power, it had more turn than my Explorer, but different colors and plastic will have different stability. I found the Explorer to be a little more stable, but I also picked an Alpha with a color and run that was on the less stable side of Alpha discs.

Overall a good stable fairway driver, but I will probably stick with the Explorer for this slot.

    UPDATE:

I noticed that after one round the stamp was already wearing off. In fact, when I rub my thumb across the stamp, it comes off. No stamp should come off that easily. It's a shame, because it is one of the coolest stamps I've had on a disc.

I can’t tell you how much love I have for these discs. A currently bag 3, and if you know anything, each color/plastic will perform differently. The alpha has replaced every control or fairway driver in my bag.  The eternal and apex plastics are fantastic. Super durable and great grip!

Eternal Pearly green 2nd run flies laser straight. I can rely on 320-350 with minimal fade. Hands down my most reliable disc. I would buy 20 if I could find them in stock.       8/5/0/1

Apex yellow 2nd run flies like a faster firebird, and has better forward fade. It has become my go to forehand disc, and utility, as needed.    8/4/0/3.14

Eternal yellow 1st run flies how an alpha was envisioned. Great glide, good HSS, with nice small to medium fade. Reminds me of my old luster champion teebird when new. However, this alpha has better forward fade. I can only hope this alpha will season in well, like the 2nd run eternal green.         8/4/0/2

This is a very solid and reliable disc, and responds very well to a power throw. I'm throwing 1st run eternal in pink and yellow (175g), they seem to fly the same to me, but im no expert. The rim reminds me of the Innova Eagle, witch is very easy to hold. This disc is just a great all around disc that can be used as a distance driver or that go to fairway disc for control shots.

If there is a stiff breeze i will take my FDs out of my bag and replace them with the Alpha. The Alpha is pretty good on a windy day and i can expect similar results, with just more fade than the FDs.

So try one you will love it. the numbers hold true. This is the disc you are looking for.

The Alpha is a solid start for mint discs and I look forward to seeing more from them in the future. The Alpha's dimensions are quite interesting and it equates to a grip that works great for me. The Alpha is quite tall and can have a monster pop top to it in the Eternal plastic, the rim size is pretty substantial but the overall disc size is a touch smaller I put it at about speed 9. As far grip goes backhand and forehand This disc works well for me backhand but the big dome makes it feel weird to get a grip forehand. My Alpha is 175g and in the Sublime Plastic, I have a 3rd run in gray which is quite domey and an overstable beast and a 2nd run sublime and they might as well be 2 completely different molds.

The Alpha is advertised as a longer straight flying power driver and to an extent that is accurate. The 2nd run and 3rd runs in eternal plastic handle differently but generally this disc likes to be thrown hard. The 3rd run might as well be a firebird while the 2nd run is very workable. These discs on hyzer will hold the line well until you reach a pretty high power and then the 2nd run can flip a little. On a flat release the 3rd run holds the line for awhile then dumps out hard while the second run will drift to the right for a ways then work its way back left. The 3rd run will eat all the anhyzer angle you give it and fight back immediately this while the 2nd run will flex and hold pretty much until the end of its flight.

As I come to find out it really depends what alpha you get to determine this. The current 3rd run eternals on infinite are absolute hogs and will devour headwinds with ease, but don't have a lot of glide for tailwinds. The 2nd run flips into a roller in a headwind but maintains a long straight flight into a tailwind.

This disc would be a good firebird like disc for beginners for use in headwinds... forehand players might find use for it if they find it in a flatter profile it is pretty stable though and it probably wouldn't be a good learning tool.

Overall I really like the Alpha its minor fit and finish issues do weigh in to my review as the disc flight is a large part of it but it does matter how it looks and feels. I think its reliable flight and great plastic feel make up for most of the short comings though and if you were curious about an Alpha I strongly recommend grabbing one of these; a commendable 4/5 stars suits this disc well.  I look forward to seeing more out of Mint discs in the future!

The sublime plastic has a great feel to it and a dependable flight path.  This is a great control driver for straight to hyzer shots.  I can throw this disc about 300ft and know that it will have a slight fade at the end.  As the disc beats in it will probably become a dependable turnover disc.

These discs are amazing! It's hard to say what hasn't already been said about them. I have 165g blue sublimes as my main fairway driver. They are stable enough to crank on pretty hard, loving them for anything from 275ish to a little over 300 when I need a decent fade and a bit of skip. No fear of turning it over unless there's a bit of headwind. Once it beats in it's got a bit more glide, and you can hyzerflip them. I then rotate a fresh one into the bag so I can hit two different lines. I also have a candy pink at 171 I use for when I have to fight a headwind, or I have a a dogleg left (with RHBH) where I want to hyzer/skip around. The rim depth and wing shape are very comfortable in my hand. Release is very clean. Check out the flight data offered on Mint's website as the plastic blends/colors make a big difference in feel and flight.

I had the pleasure of throwing the Alpha in all three plastic types. It is an awesome disc, in all plastics, though my personal favorite was the Sublime plastic (equivalent of MVP Plasma) for its durability, its grip, and its beauty. This disc both looks and flies great!

The Alpha doesn't feel like one of the massively wide-rimmed bombers, with a rim that feels more like a fairway driver, but it certainly can take a lot of heat and can sure get out there. Because it has a very reliable fade, it won't keep cruising forever, but will predictably fade at end of flight with a manageable, gentle turn. I've witnessed a 320-foot ace with this disc (no, it wasn't my throw), and I've watched other players throw it and say, "I like that!"

If you want a disc that can be used as a moderately overstable control driver, or as a distance bomber that won't flip over, and that feels great to throw, then you'll love the Alpha. I'd would say that it is one of my favorite new driver releases of 2017 (so far), along with the CD3 and the Trace.
