Dynamic Discs' long distance driver promises max distance for intermediate-advanced disc golfers. On a powerful throw, the Renegade may be very understable; good for downwind shots and rollers. The Renegade has a substantial degree of high speed turn, impressive glide, and a significant low speed fade. The Dynamic Discs Renegade is available in transparent Lucid plastic, Fuzion plastic for the Eric McCabe series, and the most affordable BioFuzion plastic.

The Renegade is a long range distance driver from Dynamic Discs. The Renegade has a comfortable rim for a distance driver and the Fuzion plastic is comfortable and durable. The flight of this disc was rather understable for me when given full power. It had a good amount of turn, and a little fade at the end of the flight. It flew a lot like a Sidewinder for me. It could really be a great roller disc, and I could see this be a players first distance driver.

The Renegade is an often discounted and frequently rolled disc by most players who bag it. Its numbers rated by DD are little deceiving but is frequently advertised correctly as a understable long distance roller/tailwind bomber. Like most of the Trilogy plastic this discs glide is mystifyingly good; it wants to stay in the air for as long as possible when given the correct angles and it holds my personal distance record in a downhill tailwind throw at about 460ft.

The discs profile is very shallow with a medium/large rim on it, it does not feel substantial and as a man with pretty medium sized hands I can imagine for some people with bearclaws for hands this disc will feel outright puny while it could be the holy grail for young adults and ladies. While this disc is rated at speed 11 it doesn't feel overwhelmingly fast or need to even be thrown that hard to really get out there and fly a smooth flight. I have reflected in my numbers so I would knock speed down to a speed 10 and it will also will fade out pretty reliably... given it has the height/time to do so.

This disc has quite a bit of a flip out of the box so an intermediate arm can hyzer-flip this disc for a gorgeous S curve/straight flight and with all that glide it will just carry. Throw this disc hard/flat and give it some height and it will come down on a very fast roller that will just carry. I don't typically throw anhyzers but due to its understable nature it should hold that line without any fade as long as you give it enough power. Something that most people would not expect this disc to be good at is to learn flip up side arms. In the grippy fuzion plastic they tend to be on the flat side and due to its rim size mentioned earlier it is very easy/comfortable to grip. It can't be cranked on but if you don't have a lot of power in your sidearm throw it is a great tool to work with. As far as beginner discs go I would say this disc would make the must have list. It is an excellent teaching tool and very fun disc to throw. It even has practical uses as your skill increases as a utility disc. I wouldn't hand it to someone brand new as it is probably still a little hard to throw at that level but assuming the thrower can get midranges and short fairways to around 225ft a Renegade will probably be the disc that cracks 300ft.

For its niche this disc performs exceedingly well but it ends up in the utility class of drivers for most throwers and because this disc lacks versatility: different plastic types have minor impact on its stability but not to the point where you make the disc do things that it isn't good at. It is hard to give it much more than a 3/5 as its uses are limited for the intermediate field and above but don't take that as a bad thing because when you do need the renegade it really is the best tool for the job. I just do not see the need to bag more than one of them.

In my opinion, the fade rating on this disc is extremely deceiving.  If you have a decent arm and throw this disc flat, it's gonna roll.  That being said, I actually like the disc.  Its good for big anhizer shots and surprisingly good for rollers.

Only gripe I had is that it wasn't at all what I was expecting.

    The Dynamic Discs Renegade:

Compared to the MANY varieties of distant drivers out there available to the public, I would classify the Renegade to be in the "middle of the road" speed category of the distant drivers. Its 11 speed is very welcoming for an intermediate to advance player. Beginners or weekend warrior players who are feeling daring, I would only suggest buying this disc if you can throw at least 250 feet and I would recommend the Fuzion plastic in a light weight because the Lucid plastic tends to be more overstable.

For intermediate players who are looking at purchasing the Renegade but maybe aren't sure about pulling the trigger please consider these points that I have produced based off of the two Renegades that I have in my current bag!

    • The Renegade like other discs from Dynamic Discs comes in a verity of plastic options. (Fuzion, BioFuzion, Lucid and Moonshine DD) I find this particularly useful if you play in different weather conditions (cold, wet, hot, humid, dry). These plastics also tend to have different flight characteristics. I've personally noticed that the Lucid plastic is more overstable then the Fuzion or BioFuzion plastics.
    • If you are looking for a disc that will give you a smooth "S-curve" (Once the disc is broken in) this disc will certainly do that for you.
    • The rim size is pretty average among other speed 11 discs. 2.1cm is great for both men and woman.
    • Consistency is a big reason why a lot of players (both pros and joes) have turned to Trilogy. I play on average about 2-3 time a week and the flight path of my Renegade didn't change until half way through my 1st season with it (which in Minnesota is from the time the snow melts in spring to the time the snow falls in winter) and I hit my fair share of trees.
    • This is a great disc to step up to if you have noticed you are turning over discs in the 9-10 speed category. If you already are throwing at the 11 speed but want to explore different brands, the Renegade is similar to the: Innova Wraith, Discmania DDx, MVP Tesla. (For Prodigy players this disc is in between D3 and an F3)

    Conclusion

The Renegade is a fantastic disc for those who are wanting a natural "S" curve go to disc in their bag. Although it won't fight head winds very well, I believe YOU will be pulling this disc out plenty if you are battling a hole with a guardian tree blocking your hyzer route, or on a open hole with a calm wind and are looking for MAX distance.

I love my Fuzion Renegade. I have had it in Lucid plastic before but found much more consistency from my Fuzion and I love having it in my bag. It is an excellent choice for the long s-curve shots that I have been wanting. If I need something to hold a line going to the right I can but just a touch of anhyzer on the disc and it will just settle out at the end of the flight. I have also had friends with less experience use it as a more stable driver, and they have been impressed as well. It ia a great disc for anybody and they can expect great results from the disc

Great disc. I use this in my bag as a compliment to my freedom. I LOVE my freedom but this is a slightly overstable disc which works in places the freedom wont. If you enjoy the freedom or similar discs this is in my opinion would be the equivalent of a (+1) in stability. So basically just slightly more stable. I like to use this on holes when i would typically use a freedom but have a left to right wind so I need something a bit more stable.

Profile: One great thing about this disc is it has a very low profile, so anyone without large hands will like the feel of this disc.  Great into when you are starting to get to upgrade to thicker rims.

Flight: Understable flier.  This was my first "distance driver" I was able to handle.  Once it beat in I used it to learn how to hyzer flip with.  The flight is going to be VERY power dependent.  Experienced players would need to hyzerflip it, low end int players will get a good S out of it.

Comparison: Nothing feels or flies quite like this.  In it's own league.

Final thoughts: You will love this or hate this disc.  I think it's very much a niche disc.  If you have too much power you will roll it, if you don't have enough it will be way too stable for you.  So there is that perfect spot where you will get a little S and 300 ft out of it.  I would say this is definitely more of a recreational player level disc, but it's good to learn how to hyzerflip on for those with a growing arm speed.

Acquiried a 165g Fuzion Renegade from Infinite Discs, with their usual excellent service.  I'm a fan of the Fuzion plastic (Gold Line for DD's sister company Lat64) and the Renegade feels great in the hand in this plastic.  The grip is comfortable, not too wide for my hand.  The flight of the Renegade is similar to the Innova Tern, with some turn and some fade back.  The Renegade will not be one's first choice in a strong headwind, but in a tailwind or calm winds it gets great distance, especially for a "noodle arm" like myself.

Update (4/2/17):  over time and seasoning in, and with improvement in my form, the Renegade gets better and better.  I've thrown it over 300 ft. in a tailwind (huge for my noodle arm).  Upgrading to 5 stars.
