    Pro-D Details

Pro-D is Discrafts affordable basic plastic blend. This isn't the most durable plastic, but it provides good grip and is very affordable. For old school disc golfers that like to "break in" thier discs for varying flight paths, Pro-D is an excellent choice. It is also one of the most popular blends for putters and is often referred to as "putter line" plastic.

I'm reviewing this purely as a putting putter rather than a throwing disc. The TL:DR is that if you like putting with a challenger, you should think about this disc. For me the biggest difference was the glide - and that's what improved my putting game. I am a spush putter and with my challenger I have a tendency to yank it right on longer putts just trying to get the power right. Because the SS has a bit more glide, you don't have to put as much on it for longer putts and jump putts so I find it a lot easier to hit my intended line with this disc. It flies like a judge but has the feel in the hand of a challenger. For me, that's pretty much perfect. I will point out that this disc is basically beadless while a normal challenger has a microbead. I don't notice the difference anymore but it took some getting used to. Currently I have this disc in Pro-D, I will be getting one in jawbreaker plastic whenever they are back in stock.

When I initially got this disc I wasn't a huge fan, then I went on a business trip and brought it with me to play at the New World Disc Golf Course where there are some water hazards and heavy woods so I didn't care if I lost it.

After playing 20 holes I realized how awesome this putter was to tee off with.  I threw it off a hill and throught for sure it was taking off into the woods to be lost forever, then it faded back for a beautiful s-curve to set me up for a birdie.  Great disc that is fun to throw.  It's not my primary putter, but it's one that I will bag on and off.

Great move, Discraft! A Challenger with the bead shaved off. Closest disc to compare it to in feel, would be Mercys and PA1s (both of those have a blunter nose).

This is exactly what I wanted. Challengers are the best feeling putter to me. Their bead isn't to big, but it's not a sharp micro bead either. (If you look closely at them, it looks like a track was machined out to create a subtle bead.) My finger drops right in. They have a great flight for short drives and upshots too, but I'm not a fan of beads for my throwers. Chally SS takes care of that. It's exactly as described: A beadless Challenger. Flight  compared to my Jawbreaker Challengers, wasn't too far off. Smigde less fade. They will turn slightly if you release them hard and flat, so I drive them with a pinch of hyzer and they pop and ride. Touch shots are flat and easy for the same effect at shorter distances. I was practicing with my testflight Jawbreaker and a new Pro-D, working on landing zones 200ft, 250ft, and 275ft out. They flew identically.

I think these fly very similar to JB Roaches. Since I like the idea of the SS/OS lineups where it's like having the same disc in different ranges of wear right out the box (even though in this case it doesn't matter since I'll only be driving with the Chally SS, and only putting with a regular Challenger) these have kicked Roaches out.

This is the putter I've been waiting for since I started playing in 2011. I can't stress enough how important the feel of a putter is to each individual, and not every putter is going to resonate with every person. However, this disc is everything I've been wanting in a putter for a long time. The Chally SS is beadless, deep, and 'fat.' I prefer my putters to fill my hand up and really feel substantial to grip. The Chally SS has a nice round nose with a slow taper that i like to call 'fat.'

I first picked this mold up in Test Flight Jawbreaker and finally got my Pro-Ds in just recently. The Jawbreaker plastic has a fantastic grip and is just a little flexible. I much prefer stiff feeling putters, so these weren't perfectly ideal in the heat since it made them even a bit more flexible. The Jawbreakers are going to be PERFECT winter putters though thanks to that extra tacky grip.

The Pro-D plastic feels fantastic. Discraft has really come a long way with their Pro-D blend of plastic, and it shows with how much nicer the grip and feel is with this run compared to some older and slicker Challengers I have. They are nice and stiff with just the right amount of grippiness, and even have some awesome swirls going on.

The Chally SS has a tremendous amount of glide and the right amount of stability for a putting putter. I'm a spush putter and find these to be absolute straight point and shoot in the circle, and extremely intuitive to control out of the circle thanks to the very soft fade this mold offers. I find myself feeling like disc is more of a compliment to my putt rather than a disc I need to manipulate to do what I want all the time.

As throwers, I would agree with Discraft that they are just like a seasoned Challenger. Easy straight shots and soft turn with more power. They certainly are not super flippy but I'm sure they can beat in to that flippy putter, everyone wants, real fast. I already have a beat Challenger in the bag that covers that slot, but I'm sure an SS will take over when that Challenger is ready to retire.

Overall, this is a great feeling disc (to me of course) and should absolutely be given a chance by anyone in the market for a new putter. If you like round noses, deep dishes, beadless putters, or fresh glidey putters, this is the mold to try out!
