I'm not a huge fan of the design of the chains on the Prodigy T2 basket. There's a lot of variations in the way these baskets catch. Throw it too hard and it might bounce off the chains but don't throw it hard enough and it may do the exact same. It's hard to know exactly how to approach these baskets. They are certainly well built construction material wise. I will give them that for sure.
For many years I have been using a folding portable basket hoping it would last through the rainy days by sitting in the closet. Instead, I only used it occasionally, as it became a burden to get out and put away. With my putting suffering from a lack of practice, I decided I needed a basket I could leave out in my backyard all the time. The practice baskets from various manufacturers looked good, but then I discovered for just a little more money I could get a course basket, the Prodigy T2. Galvanized chains instead of zinc coating sounded ideal for lasting outside in a wet winter. My local courses have galvanized chains that are 15+ years old, with zero rust. I couldn’t find many reviews for the Prodigy T2, but I did have some concerns reading about the original Prodigy T1, but Prodigy claimed, “Unlike the T1, the T2 is more forgiving on putts that are slightly off center.” I decided to take the chance and purchased an incredible basket.
The T2 is well built and solid. After 8 months of use, it has stayed solid and still looks great. The T2 does what it is meant to do, catch discs, and it does it very well. The cross-chain configuration works better than the Mach 2s at my local course. I have only used a DGA Mach X on one course, but I would say the T2 works just as well at preventing spit through putts. In practicing the majority of days a week for 8 months, I have had 2 putts spit through and they were both on hyzer and really far right. The weight of the T2 chains is ideal in that it doesn’t cause the same bounce outs on soft putts I’ve seen with the Mach X, and read about on the T1. My one complaint about the chains on the T2, if you could consider it a complaint, is it catches weak side putts too often.
I did have two issues with my order. The box did not contain the instructions, so I was uncertain about which holes to use for the basket assembly and chain assembly. Infinite support did not have the instructions at that time. Prodigy support was able to confirm the basket uses the bottom holes and the chain assembly should line up with the top of pole using the holes third from the bottom; and provided the instruction sheet. My other issue was the basket arrived with scratches in the powder coating due to how it was packed at the factory. Not ideal for a basket I wanted to last out in the rain. Prodigy provided a replacement part and I can confirm they have improved their packing process.
Overall, the Prodigy T2 is an amazing basket for the price. Catches with the best of them, built to last, and backed by excellent support from Prodigy. Oh, and my putting has improved.
A great top-tier basket at a competitive price point:
The Prodigy T2 is an amazing value for a top-tier basket. All of the controversy of the T1 seems to be gone. Dead center putts don't push back out, and wide putts catch very well - on par with the competition. With a nice build and lots of color options, what you've got here is a great catching basket at about 3/5ths the price of some of its competitors in this range.
