I have the Voyager Slim and it's a great bag for me. I don't haul around 20+ discs ever. It has just the right amount of storage to handle my needs for a round or 2. The feet on it do not hit my back. It's very comfortable and does not tip, unless it's a really steep, but hey that's just physics.
If you want something slim, sturdy, and stable go for the slim. If you want to haul more discs and some gear go for the pro. #throwgyro
The MVP Voyager is a nice solid backpack with plenty of space for all of your disc golf equipment. I fit snacks, a couple water bottles, and tons of discs in this bag. Another great plus is the slot to hold a stool or umbrella. The top pouch is also great for storing your most frequently used discs. At first I only kept my putters up there, but ended up having my main drivers in the same big slot.
The reason I chose to give this bag 3 stars instead of 5, is for one reason that abarker also mentioned. The feet on the bottom dug into my back a little bit which caused quite a bit of discomfort into the round. I tried tightening the straps and loosening them to get the feet in different spots, but they always rubbed against my back.
I wonder if it was just the model I used, or if they all come this way. The feet are a great addition to a bag, they keep it dry and stabalized- but they need to scoot back underneath the bag just a bit more. I'm 5'11" and couldn't find a good adjustment to make the feet not rub on me.
Hopefully this is just a fluke, or future bags will be made with the feet a little further bag. Overall the quality of this bag is great- I just couldn't take the discomfort of the feet.
I have had this bag for 2 months and played with it in a variety of situations. Tournament, casual play, rainy and wet weather. I have been really impressed with it so far. The build quality of the bag is obvious, there was a lot of attention to detail put into its design. This ranges from the pouch to hold your marker to the putter pocket. If you don't read the rest of this review the gist is that I will be recommending this bag to friends looking for a medium sized well priced backpack.
Storage
Discs
In the arrangement I use this bag I have 2 putters in the top putter pouch and then my other discs in the compartment below. This includes throwing putters, mids and drivers. It can comfortably hold 16/17 discs of this mixed variety. I am sure it could hold more if drivers were swapped for the putters and mids. There is also the pouch at the top that would allow you to fit at least 3 more putters and mids in addition to the putter pouch.
Drinks
The storage for drinks on this bag is insane. There are 2 large drink holders (I am using 1L nalgenes) and then 2 more smaller holders that double as space for umbrella or stool. The smaller ones are big enough for a slim water bottle or 355mL cans. Note: the pockets are not insulated.
Miscellaneous
The storage for your other gear is ample.
Two zippered side pockets. One big enough for the keys, phone and wallet. The other is perfect for a granola bar or smaller snack.
Top storage pouch. Extra discs, cans, light sweater, rain shell etc…
Also a scorecard holder on the flap that covers the main disc storage
Comfort
This is going to be a divisive topic on this bag. So I will only comment from my experience, for me this bag is very comfortable, the straps have really nice padding and feel very comfortable. The back is padded and feels good. The stabilizing feet don’t bother me at all. It doesn’t feel to heavy when loaded and doesn't strain my back.
The Bottom Feet
This is an absolute win by MVP. the feet are spread so far apart the footprint of this bag is massive. It stands on any reasonable slope and won't fall over. Awesome feature and something I bet other brands will soon use as well. I bet these are also going to help increase the life of the bottom of the bag as it keeps the bag off the ground.
Overall
Great bag, easy to clean, sturdy, well made, quality materials, good design. If you're in the market for a medium size bag at a great price point I would deeply consider this bag.
Now we wait for MVP to make a Rain Fly for this bad boy!
I love the storage compartments of the MVP Voyager backpack, I love the quantity of discs it holds (I fit 23 in there, heavy on drivers) I love that it has a nice putter pocket on top, multiple water bottle holders, lots of rooms for snacks and storage in the bottom, a convenient way to strap on a tournament seat. The bag looks great, it seems to be quality, but I can't keep this bag primarily for one big reason -- comfort.
I'm 6'1 and I guess my back arches quite a bit. Backpacks with a boxy frame like this rest on the lower back. Unless there is a lot of padding on the bottom of the bag, it's not comfortable for me. I have issues with the Ranger Bag, Salient Bag and a few others. Unfortunately, the MVP Voyager is worse than all of them. The MVP has plastic feet (meant to increase stability when you set it on the ground I'm sure), that actually stick out towards your body and bounce up and down on my lower back. After two rounds I couldn't take it anymore and had to hold the bag up to minimize the tenderness of it bumping my sore spots.
If the plastic legs on the MVP backpack don't bother you, then I recommend this bag. The functionality is among the best out there. If they do bump your back like they do to me, you are going to want to consider something else that won't make your round miserable because of discomfort.
