Basic Information
| Biography: | Joshua (Josh) Daves Martin started playing disc golf with friends recreationally when he was a teenager. After he graduated college from Clemson in 2009 (before they had a disc golf team), he started participating with his local club, The Greer Disc Golf Club, in Greer, SC. This is where he would find his passion for playing doubles and competing. When he moved to Idaho Falls, ID for a job, he immediately found his local course to go play. He would end up running into the local club organizer, Casey Kemmerer of the South Fork Disc Golf Club, during one of his first rounds out there when they saw him park hole 2 while playing alone and invited him to throw with them. Josh joined the club and would continue to be an active participant in their weekly events and some local charity tournaments until he moved to New Zealand. Although Josh started playing disc golf in the early 2000s, he didn't compete in a PDGA sanctioned tournament until he traveled to New Zealand in 2016. In fact, the first tournament he competed in was the 2016 New Zealand National Championships, where he would go on to win the doubles competition with his partner, Chris Dickson from Canada, and tie for 3rd in the Men's Open division. Josh would go on to compete in five more New Zealand National Tour Events and ended up finishing 7th overall and 4th in the Men's Open division in tour points for the entire country in 2016. Josh moved to the Denver area in July 2017, and he currently resides in Lakewood, CO. Josh competed in his first PDGA Major event at the 2018 USADGC in Milford, Michigan, and he competed in his first A-tier, event, The 303 Open, in September 2018. In 2019, he competed in the 2019 USADGC in Milford, MI, and the 2019 Next Gen Championships in Austin, TX, among other events. For 2020, Josh was planning to attend The Amateur US and World championships as well as the NADGT championships, but they were all either canceled or postponed until next year. With the majority of tournaments including all of the Am majors canceled or postponed, Josh would only compete in 7 events in 2020, including 2 A-tiers and 3 B-tiers. During those 7 tournaments, however, Josh would finish in the top 10 in 5 of them, earn a paid entry into the 2021 NADGT championships, and go on to earn 1700 pts for the year and finish second overall in points in the nation in the NADGT Series. In 2021, Josh split time between the amateur and professional circuits while competing in 24 events including five A-tiers and 9 B-tiers and the NADGT Championships in Austin, TX. He would record two top five finishes in A-tiers. | ||||||||||||||||
