I like using this disc for forehand drivers. The disc is really flat and covers a lot of ground quickly being a 13 speed. Pretty consistent flight and easy to grip. Probably not that great for beginners. I have no complaints about this disc though.

When I first started throwing distance drivers, I got a star Destroyer like everyone seemed to throw.  It was one of those McBeth Destroyers and pretty beefy, and I couldn't get it to go straight for very long.  Too dumpy, not enough distance to be a true distance driver for me. 

I found myself trying different stable distance drivers, as my arm speed improved I landed on Defenders.  I liked the Defender because it had more glide and less fade than the Destroyers I'd been throwing, but still wouldn't get pushed around by the wind.  I have a really beefy Lucid Defender that I'll throw backhand in extreme wind or when I want a hard push left, but my favorite stable distance driver is my Biofusion Defenders.  I have the Paige Pierce ones, they're nice and flat and I throw them forehand and backhand.  Great grip in all conditions, they fly straighter off the tee than my Lucid Defender (but don't flip), and have a good amount of high and low speed stability.  I can get these out to about 325 on a good pull and they have a reliable late finish and skip well on hardpack.

This disc is by far my favorite forehand disc. Very very overstable, You can not turn this over if you wanted to! A forehand throw flat to slight anhyzer will get me about 300' and it will dig into the ground with a small skip. Highly recomend this disc. 

I have a 172g BioFuzion Defender that I was hoping would become my next overstable forehand driver to replace my beat-in 400G D1. This disc is a tad less stable than I was hoping for, but still solid. Backhand and forehand I throw it around 320-330' and it goes straight for a very long time before displaying reasonable fade. My max distance with any disc is around 340' (using something like a Lots or an Undertaker) so I was surprised how far I was able to get the Defender. I expected to only get it 290-300'. I expect the Lucid variant flies more true to the flight numbers, specifically the fade.

This is a great disc for big arms. Definitely some overlap with the Enforcer, but I find I can get ~25 extra feet of distance with the Defender once properly seasoned. If you're committed to Trilogy plastic and looking for a Destroyer substitute, this should be one of your top contenders.

172-174g. I bag 2 Biofuzion 1 Lucid. I reviewed this 2016 and it wasnt workable just a meathook but 4 years later this is my go to driver. Both my biofuzions are PP runs. 1 is the first runs of that, flatter more overstable. The other is domey has more glide. Lucid most overstable and used for forehands.

Great overstable distance driver. I really enjoyed mine, but I eventually took them out of my bag because, in the Bio-fusion plastic, there was too much overlap between them and my champ shrykes. I tried to throw them in lucid and fuzion, but found there was too much overlap with my enforcers, and that the enforcer was a bit more comfortable in my hand with the thinner rim diameter. I would absolutely bag this disc if I wasn't throwing a mixed-brand bag.

The Defender is awesome. It is overstable enough to be reliable in a headwind but not such meathook that you can't get it to stand up and turn a little bit. 

The Biofuzions are decently domey and get excellent glide. The Lucid ones I've seen are little flatter on top.

This is an perfect compliment to the Raider. Very similar feel and flight but with more stability.

Slower arms will find this to be a solid overstable distance driver.

Occasionally I can execute a brilliant anhyzer flip max distance shot. Besides that, I'm trying to throwing nothing over speed 10.

The Defender is an extremely underrated disc that I'm surprised more pros don't use. Usually, pros from Dynamic Discs bag the Enforcer for its very reliable overstability. That's good and all, but the Defender will give you that same reliability but with a little more glide and distance. This disc is a long distance wind fighter right out of the box and beats in a long range bomber. For forehands, it is one of the most torque resistant molds on the market that still gives you a long flight. It's also one of the skippiest molds I have ever thrown because of the shape of its rim. It's relatively deep rim for a distance driver, but it's still very comfortable for both backhands and forehands. The deep rim also gives the disc more glide and really lets you sink your grip into it. I would say the only downside is that you need at least 450 ft of distance to get the full potential out of this disc. 

I read a lot before getting a disc this overstable this fast, and I thought that I would be getting a disc that I could get to hold all my power (which admittedly isn't much), and I was wrong. Even in the Biofuzion plastic, it is still very overstable. If you have 400' power, then this is definitely a disc for you to try, but at my meager 300', it was way too much disc for me. I was hoping that at the very least, I would be able to get it to hold an anhyzer and pan out enough to land flat instead of roll, but it faded too hard too early that the shots were just forced S curves. I hope to maybe grow into a Defender one day, but that day is a ways away. It wasn't out when I tried the Defender, but I would definitely try a Raider before grabbing a Defender if you're looking for max distance. If you're looking for something more overstable than the Raider for more power potential or wind-fighting ability, then the Defender would be for you, just not for me.

This disc is a better Boss, in the bio fuzion plastic it reliably beets in to a go to distance driver.  i have bagged both brand new ones for head wind shots and beat in ones for max distance.  it has reliable Fade no matter how beat in it is, great for both forehand and backhand

Nice disc but switching this to a destroyer in my bad was the best thing I have ever done the plastic is comfortable for the the mold.

In biofuzion this disc is a work of art. I love it for cycling. When new it starts off very overstable. It starts to fade about halfway through its flight for me with a nice hard dump. When new or slightly beat in, this disc fights the wind and remains predictable. As it beats in the defender becomes a dependable straight disc with less fade. And eventually once you start to get a bit of turn out of your semi-beat bio defender, thats when you'll be getting some real distance. At this point it will turn for you without turnin and burnin. It's a predicatble understable flight. The first defender I picked up was a 172 bio paige pierce defender, and man do i love it. The defender has kicked the trespass out of my go-to driver slot in my bag. As far as lucid plastic goes, the defender just never seems to lose the beef that comes with it. It's born to fight headwinds and finish right. If you can throw at least 300 feet, I'd say pick up the defender.

This is a very overstable high speed driver, so unless you need a utility / wind fighting driver this is not a good option for anyone throwing under 350-375. Even having that distance I dont use this disc all too often. That said this disc does exactly what is designed to do. The bio does break in enough for me to see a bit of turn and use it more than just situationally the more I  break it in. A prime is a great option if you want it to wear in even quicker than the bio.

175 Paige Pierce Biofuzion Defender and 175 Lucid Defender

I use this discs almost exclusively for forehands.  I honestly don't know how anyone could use this for backhand max distance drives.  Maybe if it is underweight and beat in with a 20 mph headwind.  That is the only way I could understand.  Maybe it just happens my 2 defenders are more overstable.  Although my Paige Pierce Bio Mold is quite domey.  I can throw my Star Destroyer and Champ Colossus backhand around 450 when I get into one, but both my Lucid and Biofuzion Defenders, are the beefiest and most unusually stable disc I have ever thrown.  Both of them when thrown flat with a backhand, start gradually fading almost immediately and then zip off left (RHBH) once they run out of velocity.  I also have Enforcers, that I consider to be much better suited for overstable max distance backhands.  The Enforcers I can rip out on a straight line and then will dump out at the end of the flight.  Defenders however, I only use on backhand shots that I want to make sure fade left the whole time. Such as getting around some obstacle, or if the shot demands that shape for some other reason.  For me, the Defender is almost purely a forehand disc, and boy is it great for that.  Whereas it seems to fade out of my hand almost immediately in a backhand, that same overstablity throughout the entire flight, is amazing for handling the torque of a forehand.  If I put some mustard on it, I can throw the Defender pretty much laser straight to right around 400ft with it dumping off right at the very end.  Its also incredible for higher flex forehands, as its stability will always win out in the end, even if you accidentally put a little bit too much anny on it.  I still use my Champ Firebird for many shorter forehands as I can throw it with the same laser straight effect as the Defender, just a bit shorter distance. However with the Defender, if you need a shorter distance forehand with lots of fade, without even releasing with more hyzer, you can underpower and/or adjust the height, and it works perfectly for shorter distance fade shots.  I started with the Lucid version and instantly fell in love with it for max distance forehands.  However, with the high heat and humidity where I live, I found the Lucid plastic to become too slick to be reliable towards the end of rounds. So I decided to get the PP Biofuzion version for the hot humid summers, and I have no issue with grip since. I could not recommend this disc more if you throw a power forehand.

Bio Defenders are something that a few locals rave about, so I got myself one in a trade. 

The speed is definitely a fair bit faster than I normally throw. Not a fan of the hyper thick rims. So it loses a star there for hand feel. The disc is low profile and shallow though, so its passable for my tinier hands, 

After throwing it a bit today in the field with a headwind I was really impressed with its wind fighting ability. With decent headwind and thrown flat, it just stayed straight with a bit good fade to finish. Trying to get on top of it for a flex flight, and it holds the turn over for a bit before finishing net neutral. In the tailwind it became a beefcake.

I'd likely only bag the Defender for open courses in windy conditions, where I feel it really shines. For every day duty, a bit more beef and width than I'd like. 

For Comparison:  I throw discs at sea level, in high temperatures 80F+, and high winds most of the time.  I throw about 375' typically, maxing out at 400-425 with favorable winds. The Defender/Enforcer combo provides most of my long driving needs.  

Slightly more stable Star Destroyer, longer Enforcer, most similar to a Boss.  Typical rim width for its speed.  Shallow rim makes it great for flicks.  If you need a smaller rim and want similar distance and performance on backhand throws, try a Cutlass.   Stick to the Defender for flicks. 

I feel the Defender to easily be one of the best skipping discs on the market.   Great for low ceiling shots where you intend to play it off the ground.  Beware that it has enough glide that a nose up release into the wind will induce a rise and early stall/fade, or hit that low branch you were trying to avoid.  

The Defender makes a very good 'kite', and can be used to shape very long lines utilizing side winds.

Plastic type very important to how it flies: 

Lucid is typically the most stable and least likely to chip when bounced off trees or skipped off pavement.  The grip is good when warm, but not so much when cold.  The stability of Lucid gives it the most reliable fade of all the plastics.  Fresh out of the box, this disc will dump hard, but it will not take long to wear in enough that the fade becomes more forward penetrating and the skips become epic.   I have to throw it with anny to force some flex into the flight for maximum distance.

Biofusion is almost as stable at first as Lucid, with average grip and durability.   Biofusion will break in faster to produce a reliable flex and fade when thrown into a sturdy wind.   I go to my Biofusion the most.  It seems to generally be the best for my arm speed and abilities.

Fusion is quite under stable for my current arm speed and I use it for throwing downwind only.  I also try to avoid throwing around rocks and trees because it seems to take the worst damage of the three primary plastics.  The Fusion version i feel is best for 'winter' rounds where the cold temperature will make it more stable, and maybe the tackier plastic might be needed for grip in wet conditions.  Fusion/Moonshine might also be best for the recreational player that wants to take advantage of this disc's reliability into the wind and also the amazing skips when going around and under low ceilings.

Overall I feel that this disc is probably going to be the best choice for the driving needs for intermediate to advanced players.  It has that 'sweet spot' combination of reliability and distance to be your primary driver in most conditions.

174 Pink BioFuzion Defender

I really really like my BioFuzion Defender. It is so close to making me want to switch from Star Destroyers. They basically start out as slightly beat in Destroyers which is the dream. The on thing that has stopped me from making the change is that the rim is slightly larger on the Defender and it just isn't as comfortable in my hand. Overall though, I would totally recommend the Defender in most any plastic. It's a bomber!

A must-have disc for big arms and trilogy fans. This disc is an absolutely workhorse.

Pros: Reliable forward fade- Tons of glide - Very versatile - Great for forehands and backhands - Variety of plastic - Fairly forgiving

Cons: Pretty wide rim - Inconsistent runs - The flight characteristics in the different plastics are VERY different

The Defender is a great disc! Its not very beginner friendly because of its overstability but a great disc if you have the arm for it. Reminds alot of a innova destroyer but a little bit more overstable.

170g biofuzion 173g biofuzion and 169g fuzion. If you couldn't tell I love these. The fuzion is actually starting to turn over for me. The biofuzion ones own the overstable distance driver slot in my bag. Very reliable with or without wind.

I am currently trying to switch up the drivers in my bag.  I bag Giants now but the defender has a chance to take its place.  This thing is beefy but still somewhat controllable.  Love the feel and I can get a lot of distance out of it.  

It's coming down to the Defender vs. the Gladiator for me.

The defender is a beef cake in short. I currently have 3 defenders in my bag. 2 in bio and a lucid. The bios have beaten into the point where I can throw them flat and get them to fly straight for a while and come back hard. The lucid is less understable and has a little more fight left for a right hand backhand. These things like to skip too. I'm throwing these on long holes where I need a dependable hard fade. I've also been working one of my bios into a forehand roller and it's been coming along nicely. Lay it down on a bit of an angle and it will straighten up for a long ways before curling back to the right. Perfect for low ceilings. 

Holy shnikes this thing was beefy for me..like i have mcbeth destroyers that are less stable than this. i almost found this to be useless other than for super headwind drives or  crazy skip shots

The Bio Fuzion Defender is becoming a staple in my bag.  This disc is my max distance driver for flicks.  Also use it for short flicks That need a giant skip.  For backhand I get it out to 380 or so and it's a strong hyzer the entire way.  Good wind fighter.  Reminds me of a good stable destroyer with a little added speed.  Haven't thrown a lucid yet as the bio is already plenty stable for me.  I wouldn't touch this disc unless you have at least 400' power.  

I'm not a fan of the defender. I prefer the enforcer, bc I only see a small change in flight character. I'll be either selling or trading my defender off

This disc is amazing for forehand shots.  It glides for days and has become my go to for distance drives.

I got the Defender when it first came out on a whim. I thought I would give it a shot as well as the BioFuzion plastic as I had not tried that yet and I was so happy that I did. I already had a good overstable driver in my Enforcer, but the Defender was even better to me. I could get it to fly further, hold its line more, and the plastic was surprisingly great. I instantly liked the feel and the disc has been holding up to its punishment great. I also have the disc in Fuzion plastic, which is more stable and is great for shots that I need that on, but the BioFuzion defender is my go to driver when I need something overstable.

The Defender is a disc that I fell in love with right from the start. I must have gotten one that is more stable than most, or I just need to beat it up a little, but I love the way this disc flies. For me the defender that I have is more stable than my bio enforcer but with more glide. I can count on the defender always finishing left no matter what the wind is doing. I have been trying to cut down on the amount of molds I throw and I think this is a mold that will stay in my bag for a long time to come. If you like the enforcer you will love the defender.

I picked up a Defender to try out because everyone has been raving about it, and a lot of people were even throwing theirs at the Glass Blown Open. 2 guys on the same card were from team DD and I watched them both park hole 1 with it at the Peter Pan course.

The Defender reminds me a lot of my Destroyers. It has a little bit of turn but for the most part is an overstable power driver. The glide was really nice and it fought some of the nastiest winds that I've ever done field work in. I think it is right in between Dynamic Discs' Enforcer and Trespass in terms of stability

As for the feel, the only thing I don't like is how wide the rim is. Destroyers are about as wide as I an go, and I rarely find a 13 speed that fits in my dainty little hands (haha)

The Defender is an excellent disc and the BioFuzion plastic feels great. Try one out today!

Profile: Defiantly a thick rim, borderline annoying for a medium size hand. Moderate depth.

Flight: Holds a line until it starts to lose speed then fades a good amount. 

Comparison: longer Enforcer

Final thoughts:  This is the most reliable disc in my bag.  It is great in the wind.  I even got my first ace with this disc, a 320 something foot skip hyzer.  You don't need quite the arm for that you do for the enforcer.  These start off very stable, I don't like their initial flight, once you beat them in just a bit their flight is just right for a moderate arm. So I recommend patience with this one.

I got to try out a BioFuzion Defender and let's just say that I will likely be ordering more! A friend of mine told me the DEFENDER was a tuned-down Enforcer, and not being terribly familiar with the Enforcer (though I have thrown one) he gave me that to throw too. I would say his description is excellent....thought I would also say the Defender is very similar to a Giant both in flight and hand feel.

I found the Defender, at least in BioFuzion, to be reliably overstable but not a pain for me to throw like the Enforcer. The Defender felt very intuitive to me as a Giant thrower, and might even feel slightly better in the hand for me than a Giant! I was able to get a little wiggle out of the Defender when thrown at power, but not enough for an S-Curve unless I really put some off-axis torque onto it. Righteous glide on the Defender as well. If you have the arm to throw the Enforcer, but they aren't beating in as quick as you would like, the Defender is going to be a fantastic choice for you.
